Job Overview:
The Reporting and Communication Specialist will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and communication of FAO's initiatives in the West Bank and Gaza Strip (WBGS). This position involves close collaboration with various branches of the Office of Communications (OCC) and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication strategies are implemented. The specialist will be responsible for developing visibility products, managing media relations, and creating engaging content for various audiences, including donors and the general public. The role also includes overseeing social media channels, producing multimedia content, and ensuring that all communication outputs align with FAO's corporate standards and guidelines. The specialist will be expected to capture human interest stories, maintain relationships with media partners, and represent FAO in various meetings and events, thereby contributing to the overall mission of improving agrifood systems in Palestine.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Reporting and Communication Specialist include:
  • Developing visibility products such as signage, posters, videos, and brochures to promote FAO's messaging to external stakeholders.
  • Creating informational products like lessons learned documents, presentations, and infographics for various audiences.
  • Capturing and developing human interest stories related to beneficiaries and FAO activities.
  • Maintaining media relations and drafting press releases for humanitarian networks.
  • Supporting donor relations by creating content packages.
  • Representing FAO in meetings to communicate priorities and updates.
  • Leading the Communications Unit and supervising team members to ensure high-quality outputs.
  • Managing social media channels and developing digital assets in line with FAO guidelines.

  • Providing multimedia services, including photography and video production, and ensuring compliance with FAO standards. 1
  • Supervising the Affiliate Workforce and participating in interview panels as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Communications, Social/Political Sciences, International Relations, or a closely related field. Those with a bachelor's degree must have two additional years of relevant professional experience. A minimum of five years of professional experience in similar functions is required. Candidates should demonstrate excellent writing skills for diverse audiences and media, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with UN agencies or international organizations is desirable, along with knowledge of FinalCut Pro and Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign and Photoshop. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure are essential, as is the ability to travel across the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU) or UNESCO in a relevant field such as Communications, Social/Political Sciences, or International Relations. Candidates with a bachelor's degree must have additional professional experience to qualify for the role.

Experience:
The position requires at least five years of professional experience in communications or related fields, with a focus on reporting and outreach activities. Experience working with UN agencies or international organizations is highly desirable, as it demonstrates familiarity with the operational context and communication standards expected in such environments.

Languages:
A working knowledge of English at Level C is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly those relevant to the region, as it can enhance communication with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is based in Jerusalem and may require travel across the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
