Job Overview:
The Project Director for the STRIDES initiative will be responsible for leading and directing the development and implementation of the STRIDES Activity in Zambia, which focuses on enhancing Global Health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (GHS) priorities. This role involves strengthening laboratory and surveillance systems to effectively respond to emerging infectious diseases and public health threats. The Project Director will manage all aspects of the project, including personnel, budget, and technical responsibilities, while serving as the primary liaison with the United States Department of State and other key stakeholders. The position requires overseeing project activities from initiation to close-out, ensuring compliance with policies, and maintaining effective communication with all parties involved.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Director will plan, direct, and coordinate activities for the STRIDES project to ensure that goals and objectives are met within the designated time frame and budget. Responsibilities include establishing work plans, managing technical and operational staff, creating a safe work environment, reviewing project proposals, managing relationships with government counterparts, and leading the in-country team. The Project Director will also provide guidance and training to staff, support performance management, ensure timely delivery of high-quality reports, and maintain financial and contractual compliance with FHI 360 and donor regulations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of project management theories and practices, particularly in relation to international Global Health Security frameworks. Excellent project management skills, strong influencing and negotiation abilities, and prior experience managing relationships with government and stakeholders are essential. The role requires demonstrated leadership skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities, as well as the ability to build positive relationships with local communities and officials.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in Public Health or a related field is required for this position. Candidates with advanced degrees may have an advantage, particularly those with specialized training in health management or international development.

Experience:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in progressively responsible roles involving the design, implementation, and management of large development programs. Experience with USG-funded programs is highly desirable, along with proficiency in financial management and compliance with donor regulations. Candidates should also have experience working in insecure environments and in non-governmental organizations.

Languages:
Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking) is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if relevant to the local context in Zambia.
