Job Overview: The Principal for the Star Venture Programme will play a pivotal role in co-leading the implementation and strategic development of this flagship venture-building initiative. The programme is designed to support and scale high-potential startups in emerging markets, providing tailored, hands-on support through advisory services, mentorship, corporate partnerships, and access to finance. The Principal will oversee the design and launch of new products and delivery models for early-stage startup support, manage donor relationships, and ensure that the programme continues to scale while maintaining quality and impact. This position requires a blend of strategic programme development and hands-on oversight, ensuring effective delivery of objectives and fostering collaboration with various stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Principal will supervise day-to-day activities of the Star Venture Programme, ensuring effective delivery of programme and team objectives. Responsibilities include overseeing the development and implementation of global and multi-country startup support programmes, supporting senior colleagues in setting operational targets, establishing relationships with donors, managing the production of progress reports, and working with country teams to design new market development activities. The Principal will also conduct quality assurance on the project portfolio, lead new market development initiatives, manage improvements to operating procedures, and contribute to the development of communication materials to promote Star Venture activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong academic background with a relevant Master’s degree in fields such as Economics, MBA, or Finance from a leading institution. Significant professional experience in startup acceleration, venture capital, innovation advisory, or related fields is essential. Experience in designing or managing startup support programmes and knowledge of donor-funded work is desirable. Candidates should have strong analytical skills, a good understanding of venture finance, and excellent writing and presentation skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in multi-stakeholder environments are also required.
Educational Background: A relevant Master’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field from a recognized institution is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of venture finance and startup ecosystems, which are central to the role.
Experience: Candidates should have significant relevant professional experience, ideally in startup acceleration, venture capital, or entrepreneurship support programmes. Experience working directly with founders, accelerators, and investors is highly valued. Familiarity with donor organisations and experience in mobilising donor funds are also advantageous. The ability to work in multi-stakeholder environments across several countries is essential, as is experience collaborating with senior partners.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, fluency in Russian, French, or other languages relevant to the countries of operation would be considered an advantage, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders and partners.
Additional Notes: This position is a short-term contract with a duration of 12 months, with the possibility of extension depending on the actual start date. The role is based in London, but for suitably qualified candidates, alternative locations within one of the Bank’s countries of operation may be considered.
