Job Overview:
The position aims to position UNFPA as a reference source in sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, youth, and population and development. The selected candidate will design and oversee the production of strategic content, including articles, press releases, videos, infographics, and speeches for both traditional and digital media. The role requires ensuring that UNFPA's messages are clear, effective, and tailored to each target audience. The candidate will strategically engage with media and other partners, such as government entities, private sector, academia, and civil society, to amplify UNFPA Panama's voice, results, leadership, and messages among target audiences and new recipients. Additionally, the candidate will generate stories based on reliable data through interviews and inputs from the United Nations system, contributing to the overall mission of UNFPA.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Institutional Positioning: Position UNFPA as a reference source in sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, youth, and population and development. Design and supervise the production of strategic content for various media. Ensure clarity and effectiveness of UNFPA messages for different audiences. Engage with media and partners to amplify UNFPA's voice and results. Generate reliable stories based on data and interviews. Propose strategic presentations to strengthen resource mobilization and foster partnerships.
  • Media Relations and Strategic Alliances: Strategically engage with media and partners to amplify UNFPA's voice and leadership. Develop differentiated communication strategies for each audience aligned with UNFPA's programmatic areas. Provide technical communication support across programmatic areas.
  • Advocacy and Public Agenda Positioning: Position UNFPA's national work plan and global strategic plan in the public agenda. Strengthen strategic interventions for dialogue and partnerships. Analyze the political, social, and economic context relevant to the work plan. Identify advocacy opportunities and propose concrete actions. Implement crisis communication management strategies.
  • General Activities: Maintain ongoing communication with the office team and National Representative. Participate in coordination meetings with internal teams and strategic allies. Support the drafting and editing of technical documents. Supervise training activities and events related to communication and advocacy. Manage UNFPA Panama's website and social media presence. Represent the office in UN communication groups. Prepare an annual report detailing recommendations and achievements.
  • Communication and Visibility Strategy: Develop and execute communication strategies aligned with UNFPA's work plan. Ensure message coherence across communication platforms. Create and supervise audience-specific communication campaigns.
  • Digital Communication and Social Media: Manage UNFPA's digital presence on social media and the website. Create visual and multimedia content for various digital formats. Analyze publication impacts and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Interagency Coordination and Representation: Act as a communication focal point in UN communication groups. Actively participate in joint strategies with other UN agencies and strategic allies.

Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Social Communication, Journalism, Editing, or Advertising, or a minimum of 5 years of experience in communication management and advocacy. Knowledge and Experience: Proven experience in strategic communication for international organizations, particularly in development issues. Expertise in sexual and reproductive health, gender, and crisis communication management. Strong connections with national, regional, and international media. Experience in project conception and coordination, including branding campaigns. Superior writing and editing skills. Active personal network for alliance generation. Demonstrated resource mobilization skills. Ability to work under tight deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media management; knowledge of video editing and graphic design applications is a plus. Cultural and historical awareness of the country is desirable. Previous participation in public policy dialogues is a plus. Analytical and strategic thinking skills. Creativity is essential. Understanding of English is beneficial.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree in Social Communication, Journalism, Editing, or Advertising is required. Alternatively, candidates with a minimum of 5 years of experience in communication management and advocacy will be considered.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in communication management and advocacy, particularly within international organizations. Proven experience in strategic communication, project management, and media relations is essential. Familiarity with the political, social, and economic context of Panama is highly desirable.

Languages:
Excellent oral and written proficiency in Spanish is mandatory. Proficiency in English (oral and written) is highly valued and considered a plus.
