Job Overview: The position of Technician for Water Treatment Systems within CERN's Engineering Department (EN) is crucial for the operation and maintenance of the water treatment systems that support CERN's accelerator complex and experimental areas. This role involves working within the Cooling and Ventilation (CV) group, specifically in the Water Management and Consolidation Section. The technician will be responsible for supervising installation work, commissioning new systems, upgrading existing systems, and consolidating older systems. The technician will also engage in planning, coordinating, and performing preventive and corrective maintenance activities on water treatment systems, ensuring their optimal operation. This position requires a proactive approach to liaising with users, proposing solutions for modifications, and technically coordinating contractors' work while adhering to safety standards. The technician will also participate in the stand-by service for cooling and ventilation systems, contributing to the overall efficiency and reliability of CERN's scientific facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities: As a Technician for Water Treatment Systems, your duties will include:
Planning and coordinating maintenance activities using the CMMS system.
Performing preventive and corrective maintenance on water treatment systems.
Ensuring operational activities are conducted to maintain the appropriate functioning of water treatment systems.
Liaising regularly with users regarding equipment under your responsibility.
Proposing and defining solutions for modifications or renovations as needed.
Technically coordinating maintenance and installation work by contractors, ensuring compliance with contractual clauses and technical standards.
Contributing to projects from the design phase through to testing and commissioning of new systems.
Keeping technical documentation up-to-date and compliant with quality standards.
Ensuring adherence to safety rules during all interventions. 1
Reporting on activity progress, issues, schedules, and costs regularly.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a technical certificate or general secondary education, or equivalent relevant experience in Electrical, Electro-mechanical, Mechanical Technician, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have experience in maintenance, operation, and installation work on water treatment systems, technical coordination of external contractors, and familiarity with CMMS tools. Experience with low-voltage electrical systems and water treatment of cooling circuits is essential, while experience in operating and maintaining compressed air systems and electrical CAD design is considered an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a technical certificate or general secondary education in a relevant field such as Electrical, Electro-mechanical, or Mechanical Technician. Equivalent relevant experience may also be considered in lieu of formal education.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have substantial experience in the maintenance, operation, and installation of water treatment systems. Experience in coordinating technical activities involving external contractors is essential, as is familiarity with CMMS tools. Candidates should also have experience with low-voltage electrical systems and water treatment processes related to cooling circuits. Additional experience in compressed air systems and electrical CAD design will be advantageous.
Languages: Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the other language being essential for effective communication within the organization.
Additional Notes: This position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of applying for an indefinite position subject to certain conditions. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the role is fully onsite. The position requires participation in regular stand-by duties, including nights, Sundays, and official holidays, as well as work in radiation areas and underground installations. A valid driving license is required, and the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance due to occupational health risks associated with the position. The job grade is classified as 3-4, and the reference for this position is EN-CV-WMC-2025-211-LD. The compensation package includes a competitive salary, 30 days of paid leave per year, comprehensive health insurance, family allowances, and a relocation package depending on individual circumstances.
