Job Overview:
The Driver position at FAO involves providing transportation services for the Country Office staff and official visitors. The role requires adherence to road safety rules and FAO guidelines while ensuring the safety and maintenance of the assigned vehicle. The Driver will be responsible for meeting staff and visitors at the airport, facilitating immigration and customs formalities, and ensuring a smooth travel experience for all official trips. This position is vital for the operational efficiency of the FAO Country Office, as it supports the movement of personnel and communication of essential documents and items.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be tasked with the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Drive country office staff and official visitors on official trips, ensuring compliance with road safety rules and FAO guidelines.
  • Meet staff and official visitors at the airport, assisting with immigration and customs formalities, hotel check-in, and other local arrangements.
  • Log all official trips in and out of the country.
  • Maintain the assigned vehicle(s) by checking oil, water, battery, tires, and performing minor repairs as needed.
  • Ensure the vehicle is kept clean and in good working condition at all times.
  • Handle local and organizational formalities in the event of an accident, ensuring adherence to all relevant rules and procedures.
  • Schedule and manage vehicle service dates, including making necessary bookings and payments for repairs.
  • Collect and deliver mail, documents, and other communications to and from the country office, including visits to post offices, airports, and government agencies.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the FAO Representative or Assistant FAO Representative.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
  • Secondary school education.
  • A clean driving license is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a driver with a flawless and safe driving record.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English is required, and proficiency in other UN languages is considered an advantage.
  • Candidates must be nationals of Namibia.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a secondary school education. This foundational education is essential for understanding and executing the responsibilities associated with the role effectively.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience as a driver. This experience should demonstrate a flawless and safe driving record, indicating the candidate's reliability and competence in driving responsibilities.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other UN languages is considered a plus, enhancing communication capabilities within the diverse environment of the FAO.
