Established in 1957, the IAEA has a mission to enhance global peace and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security through the application of nuclear science and technology. The organization operates in over 170 countries and has a workforce of approximately 2,500 employees. The IAEA's work encompasses various areas including nuclear safety, security, and safeguards, as well as the application of nuclear techniques in fields such as health, agriculture, and environmental protection.

Job Overview:
The position of Radiochemist involves providing technical support for the organization of proficiency tests (PTs) and interlaboratory comparisons (ILCs), as well as the production of reference materials (RMs). The successful candidate will contribute to the publications and presentations regarding PTs, ILCs, and RMs prepared by the Radiometrics Laboratory. The role requires applying radiochemical methods and conducting radiometric measurements of marine samples under limited supervision. Additionally, the incumbent will assist in maintaining and enhancing the Quality Management System (QMS) of the IAEA Environment Laboratories by adhering to established procedures and protocols. This position is critical in ensuring that the laboratory's outputs meet the highest standards of quality and reliability, which is essential for supporting Member States in their environmental assessments and management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Radiochemist include assisting in the organization and implementation of proficiency tests and interlaboratory comparisons, ensuring accurate results and compliance with protocols. The incumbent will support the production of high-quality reference materials for the analysis of radionuclides in marine samples. Responsibilities also include conducting sample preparation, radiochemical and radioanalytical analyses of marine samples, and carrying out ancillary analyses relevant to marine samples, such as grain-size analysis and various other physico-chemical analyses. The Radiochemist will maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment used in PT/ILC/RM work and contribute to the enhancement of the QMS, ensuring compliance with relevant documentary standards. Furthermore, the incumbent will prepare and present technical reports and scientific papers on PTs, ILCs, and RMs, analyzing data with supervisory review. It is important to note that the incumbent may perform work in areas involving exposure to radioactive materials, necessitating medical clearance and adherence to radiation safety regulations.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires completed secondary education and a minimum of five years of hands-on experience in radiochemical and radioanalytical techniques applied to the analysis of environmental samples within a Quality Management System framework. Candidates should have working experience with processing scientific datasets and preparing reports. Experience in the production of reference materials and the organization of proficiency tests, or in their use, is considered an asset.
