The United Nations Information Centers (UNICs) are part of the Information Centres Service (ICS), which operates under the Campaigns and Country Operations Division (CCOD) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). Job Overview:

The intern will engage in a variety of tasks that support the UNIC's mission to promote awareness and understanding of the United Nations' work. The internship is expected to last between three to six months, depending on the intern's background and the specific needs of the office. Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to content creation for online platforms, assist in social media campaigns, and support the design and dissemination of informational materials. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in international communications and public engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will vary based on their background and the office's needs but may include the following:
  • Assisting in the creation of content for the UNIC's online platforms, including social media accounts.
  • Monitoring and moderating the UNIC's online presence and implementing social media campaigns to engage the audience.
  • Supporting the design, production, and dissemination of informational materials that promote the UN's activities.
  • Assisting in the organization of events and meetings that further the UNIC's outreach efforts.
  • Providing support in preparing media monitoring reports to assess the impact of UN communications.
  • Offering translation support to ensure materials are accessible to a diverse audience.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for this internship, applicants should have a field of study closely related to the internship they are applying for. Additionally, candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a relevant academic program. This includes being a student in the final year of a bachelor's degree, or having completed a master's or Ph.D. program. The field of study should be closely related to the internship role, ensuring that the intern has the necessary background to contribute effectively to the UNIC's objectives.

Experience:
While no prior professional work experience is required, applicants should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. This could include studies in communications, international relations, public relations, or other related fields that would provide a foundation for the tasks involved in the internship.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic is required for this internship, as these are the primary languages used in the UNIC's operations. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, is considered an advantage and may enhance the intern's ability to engage with a broader audience.
