Job Overview: The Child Protection Consultant position is designed to support the Special Representative in addressing violence against children, particularly in the MENA region. The consultant will play a crucial role in preparing contributions for annual reporting processes, drafting statements of achievements, and translating media components into Arabic for advocacy. This role is vital in revamping the Global Pathfinding Global Alliance on Ending Violence Against Children, which aims to mobilize action and engage Member States in tackling violence against children. The consultant will collaborate with key UN partners and national organizations to develop initiatives, collect data, and support high-level meetings, ensuring effective communication and advocacy efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for several key tasks, including:
Preparing contributions to the annual reporting processes of the Special Representative, focusing on actions taken by national organizations in the MENA region to combat violence against children.
Drafting statements of achievements related to peace and development initiatives.
Translating and interpreting statements and media components into Arabic for advocacy purposes.
Cooperating with UN partners such as UNICEF and WHO to expand collaboration with national organizations in developing initiatives to address violence against children.
Supporting the development of case studies, advocacy tools, and policy reforms for child protection.
Collecting data and updating country profiles, talking points, and reports on child protection issues.
Planning and organizing regional high-level meetings and video conferences.
Coordinating activities with partners in the MENA region.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, urban studies, social sciences, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, or law, with specific experience in child rights and protection being essential. Knowledge of the Arabic region and the UN system is also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as law, political science, international relations, urban studies, or social sciences. Candidates with a first-level university degree may be considered if they have sufficient qualifying experience.
