Job Overview: The Finance Associate position at UNDP involves supporting the implementation of operational strategies and ensuring compliance with financial processes and records according to UNDP policies. The role requires providing accounting and administrative support to the Finance unit, which includes managing financial documentation, preparing financial reports, and maintaining an organized filing system. The Finance Associate will also be responsible for managing cash receipts, maintaining accounts receivables, and ensuring the proper functioning of cash and treasury management systems. Additionally, the incumbent will participate in knowledge-building initiatives and training for project staff, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the office's financial operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the implementation of operational strategies by ensuring compliance with UNDP financial policies and procedures.
Provide accounting and administrative support, including managing payment invoices, preparing financial reports, and maintaining a filing system for finance records.
Ensure proper control of financial documentation and manage cash receipts and petty cash.
Support the functioning of the cost-recovery system by preparing relevant bills and following up on cost recovery.
Maintain the internal expenditures control system and take corrective actions on unposted invoices.
Prepare timely bank reconciliations and initiate bank transfers in the ERP system.
Participate in training sessions for operations and project staff on financial processes.
Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess secondary education with specialized certification in accounting and/or finance. A university degree in finance or accounting is desirable, and part-qualified accountants from internationally accredited institutes will have a distinct advantage. Experience in using office software packages and web-based management systems is essential. Knowledge of IPSAS and/or IFRS is also desired.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes secondary education with specialized certification in accounting and/or finance. A university degree in finance or accounting is preferred, and candidates with accountancy certification from an internationally accredited institute will be favored.
Experience: The position requires 5 years of progressively responsible finance and accounting experience for candidates with a high school diploma, or 2 years of experience for those with a bachelor's degree. Experience at the national or international level is essential, along with proficiency in using computers and office software packages.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and fluency in Greek and/or Turkish is also required for this position. These language skills are essential for effective communication and collaboration within the diverse environment of UNDP.
