Job Overview: The Senior Project Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation and coordination of field-level programmatic activities under the supervision of the Head of Protection Unit and the National Project Officer. This position is focused on peacebuilding, resettlement, reintegration, and community stabilization in post-conflict contexts. The Senior Project Associate will assist in planning, coordinating, and monitoring project activities, ensuring they align with IOM policies and standards. The role involves compiling and analyzing data on specific project topics, monitoring budget implementation, and acting as a focal point for administrative coordination. The Senior Project Associate will also draft reports, liaise with community organizations, and support reintegration initiatives, making this position integral to the success of the assigned project.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Project Associate include:
Supporting the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of project activities focused on peacebuilding and community stabilization.
Compiling, summarizing, analyzing, and presenting information/data on project topics.
Monitoring budget implementation and proposing necessary adjustments.
Acting as the focal point for administrative coordination, liaising with various organizational units and external parties.
Drafting status reports and identifying shortfalls in project delivery.
Liaising with Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and affected communities to organize community events.
Supporting reintegration initiatives and community infrastructure development.
Facilitating referrals and addressing land-related grievances in coordination with government entities and civil society organizations.
Organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions, and preparing training materials. 1
Participating in meetings and maintaining effective liaison with local authorities and stakeholders. 1
Monitoring the work of implementing partners and reporting non-compliance. 1
Providing inputs for the development of Standard Operations Procedures (SOP) and new projects. 1
Undertaking regular field visits to monitor project activities and report observations. 1
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Senior Project Associate position include a High School diploma with six years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in development, peace and conflict studies, international relations, law, or a related field from an accredited institution with four years of professional experience. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Candidates should have a background in supporting the implementation and coordination of projects in the peacebuilding, resettlement, and social cohesion domains, as well as experience in liaising with various stakeholders, including government and civil society organizations.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess either a High School diploma with six years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as development, peace and conflict studies, international relations, or law. The educational qualifications must be from an accredited academic institution, as recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: Candidates should have a demonstrated background in supporting the implementation and coordination of projects related to peacebuilding, resettlement, and social cohesion. Experience in liaising with project stakeholders, including government entities, UN agencies, and civil society organizations, is essential. The ability to work independently and contribute to timely project delivery is crucial for this role.
Languages: Fluency in English and Tamil is required for this position, both oral and written. Additionally, fluency in Sinhala is advantageous. The proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Sri Lanka will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, and necessary government authorizations. The selection process may also be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months.
