Job Overview:
Pact Zambia is looking to hire 8 temporal drivers to provide essential transport and support to technical staff for a duration of three months. This role is crucial for the timely implementation of field activities, enhancing service delivery, and ensuring that the organization meets its PEPFAR targets. The drivers will be instrumental in facilitating mobility and enhancing coverage for technical teams, thereby supporting the achievement of programmatic objectives. The position will involve working in the Copperbelt province from January to March 2026, where the drivers will be expected to operate vehicles safely and efficiently while supporting various logistical needs of the project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Safe Transportation: Safely operate and maintain assigned vehicles, including trailers, ensuring they are in good working condition. Follow all traffic rules and regulations while driving and maintain a clean driving record. Conduct daily vehicle checks, including fuel, oil, and water levels, brakes, lights, and tires, and report any issues promptly.
  • Transportation of Personnel and Materials: Provide transportation for project staff, other authorized personnel, and materials to and from project sites in both urban and rural areas, ensuring the safety and comfort of personnel during transportation.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of vehicle mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities using vehicle log sheets. Keep detailed fuel log sheets to track fuel consumption, receipts, and expenses, and submit monthly vehicle utilization reports to the fleet supervisor. Ensure all required documents, including driver license, vehicle registration, road taxes, and insurance, are up to date.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Submit a hardcopy and online weekly vehicle checklist to the fleet supervisor and ensure the vehicle is always in a roadworthy condition. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, fueling, and ensuring that regular vehicle service is done on the assigned vehicle.
  • Logistics Support: Assist with loading and unloading project materials, equipment, and supplies as required. Help in arranging and securing materials in the vehicle to prevent damage during transit.
  • Route Planning: Plan and select the most efficient routes for transportation, considering road conditions, traffic, and time constraints. Maintain awareness of alternative routes in case of unexpected delays or road closures.

Required Qualifications:
Basic Requirements: A diploma or equivalent in Transport and Logistics is required. A mechanical or auto electrical crafts certificate or higher will be considered an added advantage. A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is mandatory. Candidates should have 3 to 5 years of proven experience as a driver, preferably in an NGO setting. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and basic troubleshooting is preferred. Familiarity with the local road network and terrain in both urban and rural areas is advantageous. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with strong organizational and time management skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is crucial, as is flexibility to work irregular hours and in adverse weather conditions.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a diploma or equivalent in Transport and Logistics. Additional qualifications such as a mechanical or auto electrical crafts certificate or higher are considered beneficial for this role.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have 3 to 5 years of proven experience as a driver, with a preference for those who have worked in a non-governmental organization (NGO) environment. This experience should demonstrate a solid understanding of vehicle operation, maintenance, and safety protocols.

Languages:
