Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, was established in 1954 and is one of the world's largest and most respected centers for scientific research. It employs over 2,500 staff members and collaborates with thousands of scientists from around the globe. CERN's mission is to explore the fundamental structure of the universe by using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter. The organization operates in multiple countries and is known for its commitment to diversity and inclusion, which has been a core value since its inception.

Job Overview:
The Electronics Technician position at CERN involves joining a small technical team responsible for the design, prototyping, assembly, testing, and installation of the Detector Safety System (DSS) and its subdetector safety systems. The role provides an excellent opportunity for a young professional to gain hands-on experience in applied electronics projects, contributing to large-scale industrial infrastructures within a cutting-edge technological environment. The technician will support various activities related to the construction and testing of the new CMS DSS, connect and configure electronic cards and crates, and participate in the manufacturing and installation of electronic crates for safety systems. The position also requires collaboration with other teams to ensure the successful integration and operation of the DSS.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Electronics Technician include supporting the construction and testing of the new CMS DSS, connecting and configuring electronic cards and crates, participating in the manufacturing and installation of electronic crates for safety systems, following up on the installation of cables for signals exchanged between the central DSS and subdetector safety systems, and taking part in DSS testing and commissioning activities. The technician will also support the DSS expert in programming the alarm action matrix of the CMS detector, collate data, prepare reports, and upload documentation into the database. Additionally, the technician will present the progress of the work done by the DSS team to CMS Safety and Technical Coordination teams.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as PROFINET, OPC UA, Modbus, and PROFIBUS for interfaces between DSS and other control systems. They should have knowledge and experience in electricity, practical experience with sensor readout chains and signal wiring design, and basic experience with cable assembly, connectorization, and EMC practices. Familiarity with electrical CAD tools like SEE Electrical, EPLAN, or Autocad Electrical for preparing and updating electrical schematics and cable lists is also required. Additional knowledge in Siemens PLC Simatic Step7 programming, electronic design, and familiarity with SCADA systems like WinCC OA will be considered a plus.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to have a general secondary education diploma. By the application deadline, candidates should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electronics engineering or a related field. Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree are not eligible for this position.
