Interns will work under the direct supervision of the Administrative and Finance team in the Douala Suboffice, where they will assist in various financial tasks and learn about the operations of IOM. The program aims to provide interns with valuable insights into the workings of IOM and the migration sector, while also helping them develop professional skills that will benefit their future careers. Interns are expected to be proactive, eager to learn, and ready to engage with the diverse challenges faced by the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks that support the Finance unit, including but not limited to: assisting in the liquidation of OPS advances in SAP, verifying staff TEC, filing cash and bank books on a monthly basis, and performing claims checks against documentation to ensure that purchases and services are properly authorized. Additionally, interns will collaborate with operations and other units to organize finance-related needs for various IOM Cameroon Mission operations. They may also assist in raising OIPA for payments and take on other tasks as assigned during the internship. This hands-on experience will provide interns with a comprehensive understanding of financial processes within an international organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the internship must meet several qualifications, including being between 20 and 36 years old, having less than two years of relevant working experience, and either being enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or having graduated within the last 12 months. Additionally, candidates should have a specific interest in areas relevant to IOM's programs and activities, and may be required to hold a scholarship for internship placements or be sponsored by governmental or non-governmental institutions.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this internship is a high school degree. However, candidates who are pursuing or have completed a Bachelor’s degree or higher in fields related to finance, administration, or international relations will be preferred. The internship is particularly suited for those who are looking to gain practical experience in a professional setting while completing their studies or shortly after graduation.

Languages: IOM's official languages are English, French, and Spanish. Fluency in French is particularly important given the location of the internship in Douala, Cameroon.
Additional Notes: The internship is subject to funding confirmation, and any offer made to the candidate will depend on this. Candidates must also be certified as medically fit for appointment and may need to provide proof of residency, visa, and other authorizations as required by the government. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those receiving financial support from their university or other sponsoring bodies will not be eligible for this stipend. IOM provides coverage for occupational accidents and illnesses under its Compensation Plan, but interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. IOM has a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct and does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
