The intern will play a crucial role in supporting project management and knowledge development within the Coalition, which aims to engage local stakeholders in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The intern will work under the supervision of the Team Lead for Programme Management and Partnerships, contributing to various tasks that facilitate knowledge exchange, event organization, and documentation of outcomes from meetings and workshops. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about urban development and sustainability, providing an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic international environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's responsibilities include supporting the facilitation of knowledge exchange among UN members of the Local2030 Coalition, maintaining accessible information for mutual learning. The intern will assist in organizing meetings, events, and workshops, which involves scheduling, attending, and preparing necessary documents such as invitation letters, agendas, and thank you letters. Additionally, the intern will support team engagement in relevant events by drafting talking points, briefing notes, and preparing presentation slides. The role also includes disseminating policy recommendations by drafting key messages from various documents and communications materials. The intern will manage knowledge products and outputs in online systems, document outcomes from meetings, and maintain databases of relevant documents and deadlines, ensuring effective collaboration among colleagues.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), or have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing tolerance and understanding of differing opinions.
Educational Background: The preferred areas of study for applicants include Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, or other relevant fields. Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs. This educational background is crucial as it relates directly to the internship's focus on urban development and sustainability.
Experience: While professional work experience is not required for applicants to the UN Internship Programme, candidates should have relevant coursework or academic experience closely related to the internship. Languages: Fluency in both oral and written English and Spanish is required for this internship position.
