Job Overview:
This position involves the characterization of the dynamics of coffee and cacao supply chains in the regions of Cusco and Cajamarca, Peru. The role requires conducting spatial analysis and modeling to understand the complexities and interrelations within these agricultural sectors. The contractor will be expected to gather data, analyze trends, and provide insights that can inform stakeholders about the current state and potential improvements in the coffee and cacao industries. The work will contribute to enhancing the sustainability and economic viability of these vital agricultural products, which are crucial for local economies and communities. The contractor will also engage with local farmers, cooperatives, and other stakeholders to ensure that the analysis reflects the realities on the ground and addresses the needs of the communities involved.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct spatial analysis and modeling of coffee and cacao supply chains in Cusco and Cajamarca.
  • Collect and analyze data related to production, processing, and distribution of coffee and cacao.
  • Engage with local stakeholders, including farmers and cooperatives, to gather qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Identify key trends and dynamics affecting the coffee and cacao sectors.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports detailing findings and recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Present findings to UNDP and other relevant parties, ensuring clarity and accessibility of information.
  • Collaborate with other team members and departments within UNDP to align project goals with broader organizational objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with UNDP procurement and reporting standards throughout the project duration.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in agricultural economics, supply chain analysis, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis software and spatial modeling tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with the coffee and cacao industries, particularly in the Peruvian context, is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in agricultural economics, environmental science, geography, or a related field is required. A master's degree or higher in a relevant discipline is preferred and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in agricultural analysis, supply chain management, or a related field. Experience working with local communities and stakeholders in Peru, particularly in the coffee and cacao sectors, is highly advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the primary work will be conducted in this language. Proficiency in English is also required to facilitate communication with international stakeholders and to prepare reports and documentation. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the regions of Cusco and Cajamarca would be considered a plus.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is set for 90 days. This is a full-time role, and the contractor will be expected to work closely with UNDP staff and local stakeholders. The position may involve travel within the regions of Cusco and Cajamarca to conduct fieldwork and engage with local communities. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's remuneration policies.
