Job Overview:
The position involves drafting the Bahrain UNCT Country Results Report for 2025, guided by the 2019 United Nations Sustainable Cooperation Framework Guidance. The consultant will play a crucial role in illustrating the UN's contributions to the advancement of the SDGs, ensuring that the report meets the expectations of various stakeholders, including government entities, civil society organizations, and development partners. The consultant will be responsible for integrating feedback from previous reports, ensuring the document adheres to UN guidelines, and presenting information in a clear, professional manner. The role requires a strong understanding of sustainable development concepts and the ability to analyze and synthesize complex information into coherent reports.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's primary duties include:
  • Integrating comments from the Review of the UNCT Bahrain Annual Country Results Report 2024 provided by the Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO).
  • Writing and finalizing the draft of the United Nations Country Results Report for clearance by the UNCT and Resident Coordinator, ensuring compliance with UN guidelines.
  • Reviewing and editing the report to eliminate spelling mistakes and redundant content, while ensuring clarity and professionalism.
  • Verifying the use of gender-sensitive and culturally appropriate language throughout the document.
  • Delivering a comprehensive draft of the Country Results Report and providing advice on report drafting and presentation. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Head of Office, UN Resident Coordinator in Bahrain, and is expected to complete the assignment within a specified timeframe.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in social sciences, such as economics, political science, international development, public or business administration, human rights, or a related field. A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in strategic planning and sustainable development strategies is required. Candidates should demonstrate excellent writing and analytical skills, with a proven track record in preparing strategic documents. A strong understanding of the sustainable development concept and the 2030 Agenda is essential, along with extensive experience in Results-Based Management principles and participatory approaches. Candidates must also have no conflicts of interest related to UNCT members or implementing partners.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as social sciences, economics, political science, international development, public or business administration, or human rights is mandatory. Candidates must submit a copy of their educational degree as part of their application, as incomplete applications will not be considered.

Experience:
Candidates are required to have a minimum of 10 years of professional work experience, particularly in visioning and strategic planning related to sustainable development strategies and programs. This experience should include working through multi-stakeholder processes and demonstrating strong analytical and writing skills in preparing strategic documents or similar analytical reports.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, with a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas: speaking, reading, writing, and understanding. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additionally, Arabic is a working language of ESCWA, and knowledge of Arabic would be advantageous but is not mandatory.
