Job Overview:
The Knowledge Management and Events Coordinator Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH) in Richmond Hill, Canada. This position involves providing assistance in knowledge management, content production, scientific outreach, event coordination, and operational support. The incumbent will be responsible for the efficient planning, implementation, and follow-up of various capacity-building, awareness-raising, and public engagement activities. The role requires close collaboration with multiple units within the Institute, including the Office of the Director, Partnerships and Public Engagement, Education, Training, and Capacity Building, and Communications and Outreach. The successful candidate will ensure timely delivery of knowledge outputs and the successful execution of training sessions, workshops, and other events, contributing to the overall mission of UNU-INWEH to address critical water, environmental, and health challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Knowledge Management and Events Coordinator Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Knowledge Management and Content Production: Supporting the development, production, and dissemination of knowledge products and communication materials; maintaining and updating the online Learning Centre and other knowledge platforms; organizing records of knowledge products; contributing to public outreach and promoting the Institute's activities on social media; and tracking education and training activities.
  • Event Coordination and Capacity Building: Providing logistical support for workshops, training programs, and conferences; coordinating arrangements with internal teams and partners; liaising with participants and service providers; preparing agendas and post-event reports; and documenting outcomes from events.
  • Operations and Administrative Support: Assisting with operational tasks related to knowledge management; ensuring accuracy of supporting documents; assisting with procurement and travel processes; and preparing reports and internal documentation.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Director, ensuring high-quality outputs and effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma (or equivalent) with at least four years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in fields such as geography, environmental sciences, public health, communications, or related areas with a minimum of two years of relevant experience. A master's degree in the aforementioned fields is desirable and may be accepted in lieu of experience. Required skills include at least two years of experience in knowledge management, communications, or event coordination, preferably in an international or academic setting. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment, and experience in planning and coordinating events. Familiarity with online learning platforms and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications are also essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or equivalent, with relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in geography, environmental sciences, water resources engineering, public health, communications, education, business administration, international development, social sciences, or a related field. A master's degree in these areas is desirable and may substitute for experience. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the responsibilities associated with the position and the mission of the UNU.

Experience:
The position requires at least two years of relevant experience in knowledge management, communications, or event coordination, ideally within an international or academic organization. Experience in planning and providing logistical support for workshops, training sessions, and conferences, both in-person and virtual, is essential. Candidates should also have demonstrated abilities in content development for educational and awareness-raising activities, including social media outreach campaigns.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another UN official working language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.

Additional Notes:
The successful candidate will be employed under a Personnel Service Agreement (PSA) contract, which offers an attractive compensation package, including a tax-exempt salary based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include 30 days of annual leave and a health insurance scheme. The initial contract duration is one year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and organizational needs. The combined duration on a PSA contract with UNU may not exceed six years, and the mandatory retirement age for PSA holders is 65 years.
