Job Overview:
The Communication Specialist will play a crucial role in the Human Resources Division (CSH) of FAO, reporting directly to the Director of the division. This position involves a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing internal communication within the organization. The incumbent will be responsible for co-writing and editing the HR Annual Report, coordinating the production of user-friendly communication materials, and ensuring that all HR communications comply with FAO standards. The role requires collaboration with the Office of Communications (OCC) and other relevant stakeholders to develop effective communication strategies and materials that align with FAO's corporate communication policies. The Communication Specialist will also analyze data and trends to support new initiatives and prepare various communication products, including speeches and briefs for senior management. This position is integral to ensuring that HR communications are clear, effective, and aligned with the organization's mission and values.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Communication Specialist include:
  • Co-writing and editing the 2025 HR Annual Report for submission to the Finance Committee.
  • Coordinating the production and dissemination of a user-friendly version of the 2024 HR Annual Report for all employees.
  • Developing and disseminating HR communication products and campaigns, including InFAO articles, emails, and newsletters.
  • Researching, fact-checking, and producing high-quality communication materials for various audiences.
  • Collaborating with the Office of Communications to ensure compliance with FAO standards.
  • Supporting the development of communication plans and materials for events, meetings, and webinars.
  • Drafting talking points, briefs, factsheets, and speeches for senior management.
  • Analyzing information and trends to create effective communication materials.
  • Supervising the affiliated workforce in the communications hub of the HR Division. 1
  • Coordinating and facilitating CSH Hybrid Town Halls and retreats. 1
  • Performing copy editing tasks to ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to FAO standards. 1

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in communication, social science, journalism, political science, international relations, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be considered equivalent. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in designing and implementing communication strategies and products is required. Proficiency in English (level C) is mandatory, and familiarity with various communication tools, including digital platforms and social media, is considered an asset. Understanding HR functions, principles, and processes is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced degree in communication, social science, journalism, political science, international relations, or a related field. Candidates with a first-level degree and additional relevant experience may also be considered.
