Job Overview:
The Principal Banker role is pivotal in managing and executing projects related to sustainable infrastructure, particularly in the energy and infrastructure sectors in Kenya and potentially other sub-Saharan African countries. This position requires a deep understanding of project development and implementation, including origination, structuring, execution, and monitoring of various investment instruments. The Principal Banker will lead project teams, supervise junior staff, and engage in business development and client management. The role demands a high level of independence and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, ensuring effective project teamwork and the successful delivery of complex transactions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Principal Banker will be responsible for leading project teams in structuring and executing complex transactions. This includes managing project teams, overseeing due diligence processes, ensuring compliance with the Bank's standards, and maintaining high-quality reporting. The Principal Banker will also take charge of portfolio monitoring, providing guidance to junior team members, and managing client relationships. Additionally, the role involves contributing to policy dialogue, assisting in business development efforts, and mentoring junior bankers. The Principal Banker will ensure that all transactions are completed within specified time frames and adhere to the Bank's policies and objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree, with a Master's degree preferred or equivalent experience in relevant fields. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are desirable. Strong quantitative skills, credit analysis capabilities, and proficiency in financial modeling are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate excellent stakeholder management, coaching, mentoring, and leadership skills. The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines is crucial, along with exceptional written and oral communication skills in English. Knowledge of the local language is an advantage.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree is required, with a preference for candidates holding a Master's degree or equivalent experience in finance, economics, or a related field. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are highly regarded and can enhance a candidate's profile.

Experience:
Candidates should have significant experience in the financial industry, particularly within development finance institutions, investment banks, private equity firms, or financial consulting firms. Practical experience in leading complex transactions through the entire project life cycle is essential, along with a strong background in project finance and/or climate finance. Familiarity with the energy and infrastructure sectors, especially in Kenya, is highly desirable, as is an understanding of regional dynamics and trends.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent written and oral communication skills. A good command of the local language is considered an advantage, enhancing the ability to engage with local stakeholders and clients.
