Job Overview: The Associate Investment Officer position within IFC’s Infrastructure Department for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) is designed for individuals who are eager to engage in identifying business opportunities and supporting the structuring and execution of infrastructure investment transactions. This role encompasses project finance, corporate finance, equity, and hybrid instruments, with a primary focus on core infrastructure sectors such as water, energy, transport, waste, municipal infrastructure, and telecom. The successful candidate will be expected to actively manage portfolio investments and engage in infrastructure projects across LAC, particularly in Mexico, while also having responsibilities in Colombia, Central America, and the Caribbean. The overall goal for the job holder is to perform regular activities typical of an Associate in a Project Finance/Infrastructure department, which includes financial modeling and analysis, requiring proficiency in Excel and fluency in both Spanish and English, with Portuguese being an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Investment Officer include, but are not limited to: supporting transaction teams during investment due diligence and execution; preparing investment committee materials; evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and closing new transactions; drafting and presenting memos on early-stage investment opportunities for management discussion; actively managing and/or supporting portfolio investments, including credit risk assessment and financial analysis; processing waivers and disbursements; assisting in mapping and screening business opportunities in infrastructure sectors; conducting market research and integrity checks; building complex financial models from scratch; performing financial analysis and ensuring quality control over financial projections; producing country and sector analysis, marketing materials, and pitch books; supporting the development of a robust pipeline of investment opportunities by anticipating market trends; coordinating with social, environmental, legal, and technical specialists to add value to client businesses; and managing relationships with clients, private businesses, banking and multilateral partners, and government officials to further develop the sector and specific investment opportunities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a master's degree in a related field such as business, finance, or economics, or an area of expertise specific to a sector or industry specialty. They must demonstrate the ability to conduct business in both English and Spanish, both verbally and in writing. Additionally, candidates should have 4 to 8 years of relevant experience, which may include project finance, private equity, or investment and commercial banking. A strong knowledge of Excel and financial modeling is essential, along with the ability to analyze and draw conclusions from company financial information. Highly desirable qualifications include experience in infrastructure transactions in Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly in Mexico, Central America, and Colombia, as well as a genuine interest in and knowledge of relevant infrastructure and regional sector trends.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a master's degree in a relevant field such as business, finance, or economics. This educational foundation should ideally be complemented by specialized knowledge in a specific sector or industry that aligns with the responsibilities of the Associate Investment Officer role.
Experience: The level of experience required for this position is between 4 to 8 years in relevant fields. Candidates should have experience that could encompass project finance, private equity, or investment and commercial banking, which will equip them with the necessary skills and insights to succeed in this role.
