Job Overview:
The Communication Specialist will be a key member of the Human Resources Division, reporting directly to the Director of the Division. This role involves a variety of communication tasks aimed at enhancing the visibility and understanding of HR initiatives within FAO. The incumbent will co-write and edit the HR Annual Report, coordinate the production of user-friendly communication materials, and ensure that all HR communications comply with FAO standards. The position requires collaboration with the Office of Communications and other stakeholders to develop effective communication strategies and materials that resonate with FAO employees. The Communication Specialist will also be responsible for analyzing data and trends to support the development of communication plans and strategies, thereby contributing to the overall effectiveness of HR communications within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Communication Specialist include:
  • Co-writing and editing the 2025 HR Annual Report for submission to the Finance Committee.
  • Coordinating the production and dissemination of a user-friendly version of the 2024 HR Annual Report for all employees.
  • Managing the production and dissemination of HR communication products and campaigns, including InFAO articles, emails, and HR newsletters.
  • Researching, fact-checking, editing, and producing high-quality communication materials for various audiences.
  • Contributing to the development of multimedia and digital content for FAO’s intranet and global platforms.
  • Supporting the creation of communication plans and materials for HR events, meetings, and webinars.
  • Drafting talking points, briefs, factsheets, and speeches for senior HR management.
  • Analyzing information and trends to deliver effective communication materials and support new initiatives.
  • Supervising the affiliated workforce in the communications hub of the HR Division. 1
  • Coordinating and facilitating CSH Hybrid Town Halls and retreats. 1
  • Performing copy editing tasks to ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to FAO standards in all communication materials.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in communication, social science, journalism, political science, international relations, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be considered equivalent. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in designing and implementing communication strategies and products is required. Proficiency in English at a working knowledge level (C level) is mandatory. Familiarity with various communication tools, including digital platforms and social media, is an asset, as is an understanding of HR functions and principles.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced degree in communication, social science, journalism, political science, international relations, or a related field. Candidates with a first-level degree and two additional years of relevant experience may also be considered. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of communication within an international organization like FAO.

Experience:
The position requires at least five years of relevant experience in the field of communication, specifically in designing and implementing communication strategies and products. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to effectively manage communication initiatives and engage with diverse audiences, particularly within a large organization or international context.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, specifically at a working knowledge level (C level).
