Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located within the Social Policy Section (SPS) of the Gender, Poverty and Social Development Policy Division (GPSPD) at ECA. The intern will engage in research and analytical work focused on youth entrepreneurship in Africa. This includes conducting literature reviews, data analysis, and drafting content for publications such as reports and policy briefs. The intern will work under the supervision of the Chief of Section and the Director of GPSPD, participating in regular meetings and contributing to the overall objectives of the division. The role is designed to provide practical experience in policy development and implementation, particularly in the context of social policy and gender equality.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: participating in research and analytical work on youth entrepreneurship; conducting literature reviews on the youth entrepreneurship ecosystem; performing data analyses and compiling information; generating statistical reports, tables, charts, and databases; drafting content for publications, including flagship reports and policy briefs; assisting in organizing and convening meetings; taking notes during meetings; participating in team and division meetings to share updates; assisting team members with reporting processes; and engaging in other duties as assigned by the SPS responsible officer.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Applicants should be computer literate in standard software applications (MS-Office), have knowledge of data analysis, and proficiency in econometrics. A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and the ability to interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds are also required.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor's or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs. A field of study closely related to the internship is essential, and applicants must provide proof of their academic status.
Experience: No prior professional work experience is required for this internship. However, relevant academic experience or coursework related to social sciences, economics, or public policy is advantageous. The internship is designed for students or recent graduates looking to gain practical experience in a professional setting.
Languages: English is required for this position, while French is considered desirable. The working languages of UNECA are English and French, and proficiency in both languages will enhance the intern's ability to contribute effectively to the team.
