Job Overview: The Associate Investment Officer (AIO) will play a pivotal role in supporting the Southern Africa Transaction Advisory (CTA) hub based in Johannesburg. This position involves engaging in business development and executing various advisory mandates related to public-private partnerships (PPPs). The AIO will report directly to the SA Hub leader and the Regional Manager for CTA in Africa. The role requires a proactive approach to client interactions, project scoping, and the preparation of financial models. The AIO will also be involved in structuring transactions and managing bidding processes, contributing to the overall success of the PPP team in delivering high-quality advisory services.
Duties and Responsibilities: The AIO will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: contributing to marketing activities across Southern Africa, developing client relationships, preparing project documentation for internal approvals, managing project budgets, and leading project teams on sell-side PPP mandates. The AIO will also engage in project scoping, assess feasibility, prepare commercial presentations, and negotiate mandates. Additionally, the AIO will develop innovative transaction structures, manage tendering processes, and coach junior team members. The role requires active participation in upstream activities to create and expand markets, as well as supporting corporate finance mandates as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an MBA or equivalent post-graduate degree in business, finance, or economics, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in project finance, corporate finance, M&A, privatizations, or private equity funds in infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of infrastructure transactions and PPP advisory, particularly in the African context. Demonstrated client relationship skills, a track record of successful project closings, and the ability to manage teams effectively are essential. Strong analytical and financial modeling skills are also required, along with the ability to multitask and operate under pressure.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is essential for this position, with candidates expected to hold an MBA or equivalent post-graduate degree in business, finance, or economics. This educational foundation will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of project finance and advisory services in the infrastructure sector.
Experience: The position requires a solid level of experience, specifically a minimum of 5 years in areas such as project finance, corporate finance, M&A, or privatizations. Candidates should have a proven track record in infrastructure transactions and PPP advisory, with experience in business development and client relationship management. The ability to demonstrate successful project closings and manage teams effectively is crucial for this role.
Languages: Fluency in English and Portuguese is mandatory for this position, with French being a desirable additional language.
