The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. They work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and reports to the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board. Headquartered in Bonn, Germany, UNV has around 150 staff members at headquarters, and 8,500 UN Volunteers deployed in the field.
Job Description
Job Posting Organization:

Job Overview:
As a Design Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in creating visually appealing designs that effectively communicate the organization's messages. Your creativity will be essential in producing eye-catching graphics for social media, flyers, posters, and other promotional materials. The role requires you to adhere to brand guidelines, ensuring that all designs reflect the organization's identity and mission. You will be responsible for collaborating with the team to develop branding materials and maintain consistency across various platforms. The position is vital for inspiring the community and enhancing the visibility of the organization's work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design graphics for social media posts, ensuring they are engaging and aligned with the organization's messaging.
  • Create visually appealing layouts for short publications and newsletters that effectively convey information.
  • Support the development of branding materials to ensure consistency in design across all platforms.
  • Collaborate with team members to design materials that align with the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to brand guidelines, including the use of specified colors and high-quality images of beneficiaries.
  • Prepare first drafts of designs within three days and finalize files for print and digital launch within five days, aligning with peak year-end vacation season.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess strong graphic design skills, with proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). A good understanding of branding principles and the ability to create visually appealing content is essential. The candidate should also have excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with the team and understand the organization's messaging needs. Attention to detail and the ability to work under tight deadlines are crucial for this role.

Educational Background:
A background in graphic design, visual arts, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have relevant coursework or experience that demonstrates their design capabilities and understanding of visual communication principles.

Experience:
While prior experience in graphic design is beneficial, it is not strictly required. The organization welcomes volunteers who are eager to learn and contribute their creativity to support the mission. Experience in creating designs for social media and promotional materials will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications and designs will be in English. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in Uganda may be considered a plus, but it is not a requirement for this position.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and while it may not offer financial compensation, it provides valuable experience in the field of design and an opportunity to contribute to meaningful community development initiatives. The role is expected to be part-time, with flexible hours to accommodate the volunteer's schedule.
