Job Overview:
The Research Adviser position at IDMC is a pivotal role focused on enhancing the organization's socio-economic impact work. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the design, testing, and improvement of methodologies for socio-economic impact assessments. This includes overseeing data analysis, estimations, and validation of key assumptions, particularly in INTPA priority countries. The Research Adviser will coordinate with various stakeholders, including consultants and research partners, to ensure methodological rigor and alignment with donor requirements. Additionally, the role involves producing high-quality, policy-relevant reports and publications based on technical findings, representing IDMC in technical workshops and donor meetings, and ensuring timely delivery of outputs required under the EU INTPA Project. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying additional data and tools needed for successful project completion and enhancing IDMC's visibility through knowledge-sharing platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Research Adviser include leading the design and improvement of methodologies for socio-economic impact assessments, overseeing data analysis and validation of results, and coordinating the work of consultants and research partners. The adviser will provide technical advice on global displacement risk modeling, produce country-specific displacement cost estimates, and draft accessible reports and publications. The role also involves identifying additional data and expertise required for deliverables, representing IDMC in various technical and donor meetings, and ensuring compliance with NRC policies and procedures. The Research Adviser will be expected to deliver all outputs for the Global Insights Hub under the EU INTPA Project on time and to the highest standards.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree, with a Master's degree being the minimum requirement and a PhD preferred, in fields such as economics, development studies, disaster risk management, environmental studies, statistics, or a related discipline. A minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in applied research, socio-economic analysis, or policy-focused assessments in areas related to displacement, disaster risk reduction, climate change, or development is essential. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in developing methodologies and interpreting model results, along with strong quantitative and analytical skills, and proficiency in software such as R, STATA, or Python. Excellent writing and communication skills are necessary, as well as the ability to engage with various stakeholders at a technical level.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced degree, specifically a Master's degree in relevant fields such as economics, development studies, disaster risk management, environmental studies, or statistics. A PhD is preferred, indicating a higher level of expertise and research capability in the relevant disciplines.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of 7-10 years in applied research or socio-economic analysis. Candidates should have experience managing donor-funded research projects and delivering outputs under tight deadlines. A strong background in coordinating with consultants and research partners, as well as engaging with governments and international organizations at a technical level, is also necessary.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.

Additional Notes:
This is a remote position, with the candidate being based at NRC representation offices in Berlin, Brussels, London, or Oslo. Other European locations where NRC has Employer of Record arrangements may also be considered. The contract duration is for one year, with the possibility of extension. The role may involve travel of approximately 10-15%.
