Job Overview: The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director will lead CHAI’s global health program in Côte d’Ivoire, overseeing design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and execution. This role involves coordinating with country operations teams, market shaping initiatives, and global program management. The Country Director will be responsible for developing and leading a complex portfolio of health projects that align with CHAI's global strategy. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and entrepreneurial individual with excellent problem-solving and communication skills, capable of functioning independently while managing staff. The position requires engagement with regional and national health authorities to strengthen health systems and ensure the effective delivery of health programs. The Country Director will report to the Regional Director for West & Central Africa and will be based in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Duties and Responsibilities: Key responsibilities of the Country Director include leading the CHAI Côte d’Ivoire program office, ensuring effective execution of global health initiatives, and managing donor engagement and proposal development. The Country Director will coordinate across multiple project teams to ensure coherent strategy design and implementation, build partnerships with governments and NGOs, and support governance initiatives at the country level. Additional responsibilities include managing multi-stakeholder projects, representing CHAI externally, mentoring staff, overseeing country operations, and leading fundraising efforts to support high-impact health programs. The role requires a commitment to delivering high-quality outputs on time and managing compliance processes as required by local laws.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field and at least 10 years of work experience, with a minimum of 5 years in leading health programs in the francophone region of Africa. They should have demonstrated experience in global health, environmental health, or policy/regulatory strengthening in low- and middle-income countries. Exceptional analytical and communication skills are essential, along with a strong track record in managing complex projects and multi-stakeholder teams. Experience in grant management and fundraising is also required, as well as the ability to navigate government processes and influence decision-making collaboratively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is necessary, and candidates must be willing to travel frequently.
Educational Background: The position requires a Master’s degree in a relevant field, which may include public health, international development, or a related discipline. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of health systems and program management in low- and middle-income countries.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 10 years of relevant work experience, with a strong focus on health program management or implementation in the francophone region of Africa. A minimum of 5 years of direct experience in leading health programs is required, demonstrating the ability to manage complex projects and multi-stakeholder teams effectively.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, as the role requires reading, writing, and speaking in French. Proficiency in English is considered an advantage, enhancing communication with international partners and stakeholders.
