Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in supporting the Office of the Deputy Representative at UNICEF Sierra Leone, which is responsible for Programme Coordination across various sectors including Child Protection, Education, Health and Nutrition, and more. The position involves providing expert advice and guidance on situation analysis, program strategy, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The volunteer will assist in the development of program work plans, monitor program funds, and ensure effective program management through a rights-based and results-based approach. The role requires collaboration with internal and external partners to enhance data collection and dissemination, as well as to support the planning and implementation of sectoral programs. The volunteer will also be involved in knowledge management, ensuring that programs are strengthened through data analysis and accurate reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Knowledge Management for Programmes: Strengthen country programs through data collection, analysis, and reporting. Participate in Programme Coordination Meetings and information exchange with donors and media.
  • Programme Development and Management: Support the preparation of program work plans and recommendations for formal documentation.
  • Optimal Use of Programme Funds: Assist in establishing work plans, monitor progress, and ensure proper coordination and liquidation of funds.
  • Programme Monitoring and Evaluations: Support the Deputy Representative in monitoring program implementation through field visits and annual sector review meetings.
  • Rights-Based and Results-Based Programme Management Approach: Ensure quality in child rights-based programs through effective planning, design, and evaluation.
  • Partnership, Coordination, and Collaboration: Develop partnerships with internal and external counterparts to improve data collection and program implementation.
  • Support the Deputy Representative in establishing sound internal controls and coordinating financial and supply management requirements.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical and communication skills, with a commitment to children's rights and equity. The candidate should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic work environment, along with the ability to build trust and work collaboratively with diverse teams. A strong understanding of program management principles and experience in monitoring and evaluation processes are essential. The candidate should also exhibit professionalism, integrity, and respect for diversity in all interactions.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, international development, public health, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant professional experience in program management, monitoring and evaluation, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of child rights and development, is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNICEF's mission and objectives will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly local languages spoken in Sierra Leone, is considered an asset and may enhance communication with local partners and communities.
