Job Description
Job Posting Organization: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a global organization that operates in approximately 170 countries. Its mission is to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality and exclusion. Established to support countries in developing policies and enhancing leadership and partnership skills, UNDP builds institutional capacities to foster sustainable development. The organization implements various projects, providing technical, operational, and management assistance through specialized knowledge and a broad international network of cooperation. In Brazil, UNDP aligns its services with the country's dynamic needs, collaborating with the government, international financial institutions, the private sector, and civil society to promote human development and poverty reduction. UNDP aims to create integrated responses to interconnected challenges such as economic stagnation and environmental crises, serving as a catalyst for collective action towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Its services include eligibility assessments, project formulation and implementation, capacity development, policy advice, advocacy, technical assistance, training, and knowledge management. The UNDP Country Office in Brazil partners with public and private institutions and civil society to foster a more sustainable and inclusive society by enhancing governance, reducing poverty and inequality, and addressing climate change and biodiversity. The program portfolio consists of three interrelated work streams: Inclusive Socio-economic Development, Environmentally Sustainable Development, and Governance and Justice for Development.
Job Overview: The position of Online Volunteer for Graphic Design involves developing a creative, engaging, and UNDP-compliant graphic layout for an email that announces internal and external vacancies. This material will be utilized regularly by the HR team to communicate opportunities clearly, practically, and accessibly. The layout must allow for the insertion of links, adjustment of the number of vacancies displayed, and inclusion of practical guidance on how to apply, ensuring an intuitive experience for both internal and external audiences. The contributions of Online Volunteers will directly support UNDP's efforts to enhance transparency and accessibility to opportunities, thereby strengthening inclusive recruitment practices and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly by promoting decent work and equal access to opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Online Volunteer will be responsible for several key tasks:
Collecting information on document/material background, including understanding the target audience, design style, and branding guidelines.
Creating a draft design based on the requirements provided and discussing it with the focal point or communications team for feedback.
Developing the final design according to the agreed requirements, ensuring that it adheres to UNDP's corporate design guidelines, which will be shared with the Online Volunteers in advance. The role requires creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with the HR team and other stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess a strong understanding of graphic design principles and experience with design software. Familiarity with corporate branding and the ability to create visually appealing layouts that communicate information effectively are essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong communication skills are also important to ensure that the design meets the needs of the HR team and aligns with UNDP's mission and values.
Educational Background: A background in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have relevant coursework or training that demonstrates their skills and knowledge in graphic design principles and practices. A portfolio showcasing previous design work is highly desirable to illustrate the candidate's capabilities and style.
Experience: While specific years of experience may not be required for this volunteer position, candidates should have a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality graphic designs. Experience working on similar projects, particularly in a non-profit or international organization context, would be advantageous. The ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines is also important.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, as the design materials will need to align with UNDP's corporate standards. Knowledge of Portuguese is a plus, given the location of the position in Brazil, and would facilitate better communication with local stakeholders and audiences.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position, and as such, it may not offer financial compensation. However, it provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with a prestigious international organization and contribute to meaningful projects that support sustainable development goals. The role is flexible and can be performed remotely, allowing for a part-time commitment that can fit around other responsibilities.
