Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager, focusing on community stabilization and peacebuilding activities. The role involves providing technical input and guidance for strategic planning and implementation of these activities, ensuring collaboration with various stakeholders including field staff, technical experts, and government representatives. The volunteer will also support the Programme Manager in monitoring and evaluating community stabilization efforts, ensuring that cross-cutting issues such as conflict sensitivity and human rights are integrated into projects. The position requires travel for coordination and support of program implementation, as well as active participation in resource mobilization efforts and donor engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will undertake several key responsibilities, including:
Providing technical input and guidance for the planning and implementation of community stabilization activities.
Collaborating closely with IOM teams and stakeholders to ensure effective program execution.
Supporting the Programme Manager in monitoring progress against strategic objectives and program benchmarks.
Overseeing the production of visibility and communication materials.
Facilitating the integration of cross-cutting issues into projects.
Mapping community stabilization needs and identifying gaps in program implementation.
Contributing to resource mobilization efforts by researching potential project opportunities.
Participating in donor meetings and conferences to promote IOM's initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong analytical and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. A solid understanding of community stabilization and peacebuilding concepts is essential, along with experience in project management and implementation. The ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including government representatives and community members, is crucial. Additionally, candidates should be adaptable and flexible, with a commitment to continuous learning and ethical practices.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in social sciences, international relations, development studies, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees are preferred, particularly for candidates seeking to engage in higher-level program management and strategic planning.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in program management, community development, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of migration or humanitarian assistance, is highly desirable. Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation frameworks is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of IOM. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Ghana would be an asset, enhancing communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a full-time role based in Accra, Ghana. The living conditions in Accra are generally safe for expatriates, with various housing options available. The average monthly rent ranges from 500 to 1500 USD, depending on the type of accommodation. The cost of living for expatriates is estimated to be between 500 and 1000 USD per month, influenced by lifestyle choices.
