Job Overview:
The MICS Anthropometry Consultant will play a crucial role in the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) initiative, specifically focusing on anthropometric measurements. This position involves delivering training on how to conduct anthropometric measurements according to established standards set by WHO and UNICEF. The consultant will be responsible for standardizing measurements across enumerators and ensuring the quality of data collected during the survey. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Statistics & Monitoring Specialist and the Nutrition Manager, and will be expected to visit data collection teams in the field during the initial days of data collection to monitor the quality of anthropometric data being collected. This role is vital for ensuring that the RMI MICS 2026 survey meets its objectives and provides reliable data for monitoring child health and nutrition.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Deliver training on anthropometric measurement techniques to enumerators, ensuring adherence to WHO and UNICEF standards.
  • Standardize anthropometric measurements across all enumerators to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Monitor the data collection teams in the field during the first week of data collection, providing on-site support and quality assurance.
  • Review and provide feedback on field-check tables throughout the data collection period to ensure data integrity.
  • Collaborate with national nutrition program staff at the RMI’s Ministry of Health to facilitate knowledge transfer and capacity building.
  • Ensure that all anthropometric data collected meets the expected quality standards and is suitable for analysis.
  • Prepare and submit reports on training outcomes and data collection quality assessments.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions with UNICEF and government partners to align on objectives and strategies for the MICS.

Required Qualifications:
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in anthropometric measurement training.
  • Previous experience in the implementation of MICS and/or Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) Anthropometry module is an asset.
  • Proven training experience with the ability to organize and facilitate training sessions and presentations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Familiarity with the Pacific region and previous experience working there is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated leadership, managerial, and supervisory abilities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the country.

Educational Background:
A relevant degree in public health, nutrition, statistics, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in anthropometric measurement techniques and survey methodologies will be considered an advantage.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in anthropometric measurement training and data collection methodologies. Experience in conducting or supporting MICS or similar surveys is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the specific challenges and contexts of working in the Pacific region.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both oral and written. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the Marshall Islands or the Pacific region would be considered an asset, enhancing communication with local partners and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is a consultancy role, and candidates are required to submit a financial proposal along with their application. The proposal should include a lump sum amount for all deliverables, detailing daily fees, travel costs, living allowances, and miscellaneous expenses. The consultant will be expected to work full-time during the data collection phase, which is scheduled for March to April 202
