Job Overview:
The Finance Associate position is crucial for the WFP's Finance unit, especially as the organization expands its operations and faces an increasing volume of financial transactions. The role is designed to manage the rising number of invoices, process payments, handle Financial Letters of Agreement (FLAs), and support budget tracking and financial reporting activities. The Finance Associate will work under the supervision of the Finance Officer and the Head of the Finance Unit, ensuring that financial operations remain efficient and compliant with organizational standards. This position is not only about managing numbers but also about contributing to the overall mission of WFP by ensuring that financial resources are utilized effectively to support humanitarian efforts. The Finance Associate will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial processes and will be expected to provide procedural and technical support to staff, ensuring compliance with WFP financial policies, rules, and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Finance Associate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: providing procedural and technical support to staff in finance-related areas; ensuring compliance with WFP financial policies; supporting the payment process for a large volume of invoices; monitoring daily cash positions to optimize surplus cash usage; processing payments to internal staff and external suppliers in a timely manner; contributing to budget preparation and monitoring; coordinating with other teams to ensure efficient financial and administrative services; monitoring account balances and processing financial transactions accurately; analyzing general ledger accounts to initiate corrective actions; compiling data from WFP databases to assist in generating financial reports; and preparing for emergency requirements to ensure readiness for immediate service in the field.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong analytical skills and attention to detail, proficiency in accounting and budgeting, and the ability to interpret and analyze financial data. Good organizational and time management skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Proficiency in financial management systems and Excel for data analysis is required. Experience in emergency preparedness and response is desirable, as it aligns with WFP's mission to respond effectively to crises.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education, along with a post-secondary certificate in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding financial principles and practices relevant to the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least six years of relevant experience in finance or accounting. This level of experience is crucial for managing the complexities of financial operations within WFP, especially given the organization's focus on efficiency and compliance in financial transactions.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, with a proficiency level of C. This bilingual requirement is essential for effective communication within the diverse teams at WFP and for engaging with local stakeholders and partners.

Additional Notes:
The Finance Associate position is offered as a Service Contract for a duration of 12 months, with the possibility of renewal based on WFP's needs, staff performance, and the availability of funds. The role is based in East Jerusalem, and candidates must be nationals or have a valid visa/permit to live and work in Palestine. The remuneration for this position is based on the SC salary scale, and it includes health coverage under CIGNA with co-cost sharing, social insurance contributions, and annual leave entitlements.
