Job Overview: The Programme Policy Officer SC8 position at WFP involves providing essential project managementoperational support and guidance for various activities under the WFP Algeria Country Office. This includes overseeing General Food Assistance (GFA), Nutrition, School Feeding, and resilience activities. The officer will ensure a coordinated approach with technical teams and compliance with WFP standards. The role requires supporting both in-kind and cash-based transfer modalities, ensuring timely follow-ups with stakeholders for effective distributions. The officer will also act as the Resilience focal point, contributing to the development of resilience-related projects and ensuring alignment with broader program policies. The position demands accurate and timely reporting on all programs and activities, facilitating informed decision-making and maintaining consistency of information across projects.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Policy Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: providing general project management operational support and guidance for WFP Algeria CO activities; ensuring compliance with WFP standards and procedures; supporting in-kind and cash-based transfer modalities; acting as the Resilience focal point; contributing to the development of resilience-related projects; preparing accurate and timely reports on all programs; liaising with internal counterparts and external stakeholders; maintaining rigorous quality standards for resilience projects; supporting the identification and management of partnerships; building capacity among WFP staff and partners; and providing guidance to support staff. The officer will also act as the WFP focal point for the SRRP Livelihood sector, ensuring effective collaboration and monitoring of ongoing projects.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a first university degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or a related field relevant to international development assistance. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in humanitarian or development settings is required, with a focus on food assistance, resilience, or livelihoods programming. At least 1 year of supervisory experience leading humanitarian or development projects is essential. Candidates should demonstrate experience in project management and operational support across multi-sectoral programs, as well as the ability to coordinate with internal units and external stakeholders.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a first university degree in fields such as International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or other relevant areas related to international development assistance. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the various factors influencing food assistance and resilience initiatives.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in humanitarian or development settings, particularly with a focus on food assistance, resilience, or livelihoods programming.
