Job Overview: The Intern in the Green Financial Systems (GFS) team of the Climate Strategy and Delivery (CSD) Business Group plays a crucial role in supporting the integration of the EBRD’s Paris alignment and Green Economy Transition (GET) approaches into banking operations. This position focuses on climate transition planning for financial institutions, which is essential for aligning financial practices with climate goals. The intern will report to a GFS Principal/Associate Director and will be involved in delivering technical assistance to financial institutions at the transaction level, as well as through capacity-building activities. The role encompasses all aspects of monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV), technical cooperation management, and policy dialogue activities aimed at promoting sustainable finance. The intern will engage in various tasks related to the EBRD project life cycle, including project origination, structuring, execution, monitoring, technical cooperation, and donor financing. Additionally, the intern may support special projects that focus on greening the financial system, thereby contributing to the broader mission of the EBRD in addressing climate change and promoting sustainable economic practices.

The intern will also contribute to technical cooperation management and policy dialogue activities that promote sustainable finance aligned with climate goals. Involvement in the EBRD project life cycle will require the intern to assist in project origination, structuring, execution, and monitoring. The intern will be expected to support special projects related to greening the financial system, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. The role demands strong analytical and research skills, as well as the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess a degree, preferably in a technical discipline such as engineering, economics, or environmental science, or a combination of commercial and technical skills. Knowledge and/or experience with climate or green finance initiatives and the financial sector is essential. A sound understanding of business and finance principles is required, along with knowledge and/or experience in emerging markets, particularly in EBRD regions. Familiarity with engineering and/or consultancy operations, as well as experience in banks, equity funds, advisory services, or corporate finance firms, is advantageous. A track record of successful project design, development, or management will be considered a plus. Candidates should demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to synthesize complex information into actionable insights.
Educational Background: A degree in a relevant field such as engineering, economics, environmental science, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with a combination of commercial and technical skills will be preferred. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in understanding the principles of finance, business, and sustainability, which are crucial for the role.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some level of experience related to climate finance, green finance initiatives, or relevant sectors. While specific years of experience may not be mandated, familiarity with project design, development, or management in the context of financial institutions or sustainability projects is highly desirable. Experience in emerging markets, particularly within EBRD regions, will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is essential, with excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of additional languages from the EBRD region is considered advantageous, as it may enhance the intern's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and clients.
