Job Overview: The position of National Consultant for Participatory Theatre for Reconciliation is integral to the project aimed at supporting the reintegration and reconciliation of former associates of non-state armed groups in the Extreme North region of Cameroon. This role involves designing and implementing innovative participatory theatre approaches to promote community reconciliation and facilitate the reintegration of ex-associates into their host communities. The consultant will work closely with the IOM's mental health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support team and various governmental and community stakeholders to develop a tailored psychosocial support plan for potential beneficiaries. The consultant's work will also include addressing the traumatic experiences of participants and fostering social cohesion through participatory theatre activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for several key tasks, including:
Developing and submitting a framework document that outlines a participatory theatre methodology adapted to the cultural and social context of the Extreme North of Cameroon.
Creating a training manual on participatory theatre techniques for reconciliation and peace aimed at community facilitators.
Implementing and coordinating 18 participatory theatre sessions across nine targeted localities, focusing on themes such as reconciliation, stigmatization, reintegration, and peaceful coexistence.
Training nine local facilitators in participatory theatre techniques and supporting nine community theatre groups towards autonomy.
Documenting activities through visual materials and producing a documentary film highlighting the effectiveness of participatory theatre as a reconciliation tool.
Contributing to the monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of activities by submitting progress reports and a final narrative and financial report.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in performing arts, theatre, cultural mediation, conflict resolution, social sciences, or related fields from an accredited academic institution, along with three years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in the aforementioned fields with four years of relevant experience is acceptable. Required competencies include training in techniques of theatre of the oppressed, forum theatre, or other participatory theatre approaches, certification in mediation, conflict transformation, or peacebuilding, and skills in designing and facilitating community participatory processes.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in arts of performance, theatre, cultural mediation, conflict resolution, social sciences, or related fields is required. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in these areas must have additional years of relevant experience. Training in participatory theatre techniques and certification in mediation or conflict resolution are also necessary.
Experience: A minimum of three years of professional experience in designing and implementing participatory theatre activities, forum theatre, or community theatre is required. Candidates should have proven experience using theatre as a tool for social transformation, reconciliation, or social cohesion, particularly in post-conflict contexts. Familiarity with the sociocultural context of the Extreme North of Cameroon and experience working with vulnerable populations, including former associates of armed groups, is essential.
Languages: Proficiency in IOM's official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish, is required. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: The position is categorized as a consultant role with specific deliverables and measurable outcomes. The consultant will be required to travel to various localities within the Extreme North region of Cameroon for project implementation. The application process requires submission of a detailed CV, a cover letter addressed to the IOM Cameroon Chief of Mission, a budget proposal, a technical proposal outlining the understanding of the mission, and evidence of previous similar projects. The appointment is subject to funding confirmation and medical fitness certification.
