Job Overview:
The IMEO Data Analysis Lead position is a critical role within the United Nations Environment Programme’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO). This position is designed for a consultant who will provide strategic advice, recommendations, and data analysis relevant to IMEO's database and the Eye on Methane Data Platform. The consultant will facilitate engagement with key stakeholders and will be responsible for integrating data from various IMEO projects to distill key insights. The role requires collaboration across different teams within IMEO, including the Science Practice and Data Integration Support Project, as well as the MARS remote sensing and government engagement teams. The consultant will also manage data analysis that will be input into the Eye on Methane Data Platform, ensuring that the data is actionable and reliable to support the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Providing strategic inputs related to the development of the IMEO database and the Eye on Methane Data Platform.
  • Managing data analysis requests from external stakeholders and coordinating responses effectively.
  • Leading OGMP 2.0 data analysis, which includes company reporting, factsheets, gap analysis, target analysis, and assets mapping.
  • Developing a strategic plan for IMEO's overall data outputs and advising the IMEO management team on best practices.
  • Collaborating with IMEO's Science Practice and Data Integration Support Project to co-develop analytical approaches and incorporate emerging insights.
  • Coordinating with the MARS remote sensing team to analyze both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Advising on collaboration among the OGMP 2.0 and MARS teams regarding potential data analysis linkages.
  • Reporting directly to the Acting Head of the International Methane Emissions Observatory.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the IMEO Data Analysis Lead position should possess a Master’s Degree in Public Policy, Economics, Data Analysis, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 12 years of experience is required, ideally in the field of environmental or energy data and policy analysis. The candidate should demonstrate a strong understanding of data analysis methodologies and have experience working with environmental data.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in a relevant field such as Public Policy, Economics, Data Analysis, or a related discipline. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform the duties required for this position effectively.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 12 years of professional experience, ideally in environmental or energy data and policy analysis. This level of experience is crucial for the consultant to navigate complex data sets, engage with stakeholders, and provide strategic insights that align with IMEO's mission and objectives.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary working language of the United Nations. Additionally, proficiency in other UN languages is considered a plus, which may enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and contribute to a more inclusive working environment.

Additional Notes:
The consultant will be engaged for a duration of 12 months, with the possibility of remote work. Regular meetings with relevant IMEO teams will be expected to ensure alignment and progress on strategic initiatives.
