IOM Ecuador plays a crucial role in supporting the Government of Ecuador and regional actors in addressing migration challenges and opportunities, emphasizing sustainable, community-based interventions and strong coordination with local governments and stakeholders.
Job Overview: The Project Assistant – Socioeconomic Inclusion will work under the overall supervision of the National Project Manager and direct supervision of the Senior Project Associate – Socioeconomic Inclusion. This role is pivotal in assisting with the implementation and monitoring of project activities aimed at supporting migrants, refugees, and host communities. The assistant will be responsible for retrieving, compiling, summarizing, and presenting information on specific project topics, as well as monitoring the project budget and ensuring the availability of funds. The position requires strong administrative coordination skills to liaise with various organizational units and external parties, ensuring smooth project implementation. The Project Assistant will also draft reports, correspondence, and other documentation, organize meetings and training sessions, and respond to general inquiries, all while maintaining accurate records.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Project Assistant include: assisting in the implementation and monitoring of project activities; retrieving, compiling, summarizing, and presenting information/data on specific project topics; monitoring the project budget, verifying the availability of funds, obtaining necessary approvals, and updating budget-related information; supporting administrative coordination of project implementation by liaising with diverse organizational units and external parties; drafting status reports to identify shortfalls in delivery; drafting correspondence, reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations, and other forms of documentation; organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions; responding to general information requests and inquiries; setting up and maintaining files/records; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a school diploma with four years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing and Sales, Economy, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Candidates must demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess either a school diploma with four years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Marketing and Sales, Economy, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited academic institution. The educational background should be from institutions recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that the candidate has received a quality education that aligns with the requirements of the position.
Experience: Candidates should have experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies, and non-governmental organizations. Experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking, and other vulnerable groups is essential. Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions in a multicultural setting is considered an advantage, as it demonstrates the candidate's ability to navigate complex environments and work effectively with diverse populations.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is required for this position, both oral and written. A working knowledge of English is desirable, as IOM’s official languages include English, French, and Spanish. Proficiency in the required languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure that candidates can effectively communicate in the necessary languages for the role.
Additional Notes: The position is subject to local recruitment, meaning that only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Ecuador will be eligible for consideration. Any offer made to the candidate is contingent upon funding confirmation. This selection process may also be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months. Candidates must be medically fit for appointment, and their residency, visa, and authorizations will be verified by the concerned government where applicable.
