Job Overview:
The Senior Programme Management Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the management and implementation of complex departmental programmes and projects. This position requires a high level of independence and expertise, as the assistant will be responsible for providing comprehensive programme/project management assistance throughout all phases of the programme/project cycle. The role involves researching, compiling, analyzing, and summarizing data on a wide range of programmes and projects, ensuring that relevant information is presented effectively to decision-makers. The assistant will also track legislative decisions that impact programme/project content and oversee the preparation of databases to incorporate programmatic changes. Additionally, the assistant will work closely with funding agencies to arrange financing modalities and ensure proper monitoring systems are established. The position demands strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders. The Senior Programme Management Assistant will also be involved in drafting budgets, monitoring financial commitments, preparing reports, and coordinating implementation activities, making this a multifaceted role that requires a proactive and organized approach.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Programme Management Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
  • Providing full programme/project management assistance at all phases of the programme/project cycle for complex departmental initiatives.
  • Researching, compiling, analyzing, and summarizing information on various programmes/projects, highlighting key issues and trends.
  • Tracking resolutions and legislative decisions affecting programme/project content and maintaining relevant databases.
  • Reviewing and revising submissions for programmes/projects to ensure compliance with guidelines and objectives.
  • Collaborating with funding agencies to arrange financing modalities and ensuring proper monitoring systems are in place.
  • Drafting budgets and forecasts based on submissions and preparing monitoring checklists.
  • Monitoring budgetary commitments and preparing periodic budget revisions.
  • Preparing reports on programme/project activities and drafting inputs for various documents.
  • Serving as a focal point for coordination and monitoring of implementation activities. 1
  • Establishing internal databases and managing data relevant to programme/project activities. 1
  • Supervising office support staff and assisting with data collection and analysis. 1
  • Advising staff on financial and technical report preparation and coordinating with service units. 1

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. For positions in the General Service category, it is essential to clearly indicate relevant information confirming completion of high school in the Applicant Profile. Additionally, relevant training or qualifications in programme management and international cooperation projects are desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of programme/project administration, implementation, and evaluation, as well as technical cooperation and budgeting processes. Educational Background:

Experience:
Candidates must have at least ten (10) years of experience in international technical cooperation programme and/or project management or a related area. Languages:
English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. French is also a working language.
