Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The internship is located within the Conference and General Services Section (CGSS) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). ESCAP was established in 1947 and is one of the regional commissions of the United Nations. The organization aims to promote economic and social development in the Asia-Pacific region. It operates in multiple countries across Asia and the Pacific, providing support to member states in achieving sustainable development goals. The CGSS specifically focuses on providing effective and efficient conference support services to facilitate the work of ESCAP and the broader UN community.

Job Overview:
The internship position is designed for individuals seeking to gain practical experience in the administration of conference management services, general services, host country relations, and catering services. Interns will work full-time for a period ranging from three to six months, depending on the needs of the Division of Administration. The role involves working under the supervision of a staff member within CGSS, where interns will have the opportunity to engage in various tasks that contribute to the operational success of the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. Interns are expected to demonstrate excellent drafting skills in English and a keen interest in the work of the United Nations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will have a diverse set of daily responsibilities that may include: assisting in drafting and preparing official documents, attending and summarizing meetings, conducting document, market, and internet research, working on web presentations, compiling statistics, generating a variety of statistical and other reports, work orders, etc., using various databases in Excel and SAP, performing data entry and extraction functions, conducting media analysis, evaluating projects, and liaising with other Sections of ESCAP and/or other UN entities on CGSS administrative matters. The role requires proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, to effectively carry out these tasks.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following conditions: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Additionally, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. No prior working experience is required, as the internship is designed to provide practical training and experience.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed or be in the process of completing a relevant academic program. This includes either a graduate school program or the final year of a bachelor's degree program. The educational background should ideally align with the functions of the internship, providing the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute effectively to the work of the CGSS.

Experience:
No prior work experience is required for applicants to the United Nations Internship Programme. The focus is on providing an opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience that complements their academic training. The internship is intended to benefit the United Nations through the skills and knowledge that interns bring from their educational background.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for the internship. Additionally, fluency in spoken and written Thai is required, as it is essential for effective communication within the local context. While French is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, it is not a mandatory requirement for this position.

The internship is unpaid, and interns are expected to cover their own costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses.
