Job Overview:
The IT Operations Associate position at WFP is crucial for ensuring the effective delivery of IT services within the organization. This role involves coordinating and guiding IT maintenance and support activities, which are essential for the smooth operation of technology systems. The associate will work under the direct supervision of the Deputy Country Director and will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include system and hardware maintenance, monitoring technology reliability, and providing technical training to staff. The position requires a proactive approach to resolving IT queries and implementing improvements to IT processes. The IT Operations Associate will also play a key role in supporting the implementation of new applications and ensuring that WFP staff have the necessary tools to perform their duties effectively. This position is not only about maintaining technology but also about enhancing the overall IT service delivery to support WFP's mission of providing humanitarian assistance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the IT Operations Associate include:
  • Carrying out system and hardware maintenance tasks, including specialized network monitoring and system protection to ensure technology is functioning effectively.
  • Monitoring technology reliability, identifying user needs, analyzing data, and producing accurate reports to recommend IT solutions that support informed decision-making.
  • Resolving IT queries independently and escalating issues when necessary to ensure that standard IT questions are answered and accurate information is provided to staff.
  • Providing standard technical training to end users of commonly used technology and systems to assist WFP staff in their work.
  • Guiding and training junior colleagues in delivering IT support services to enhance the capability of staff.
  • Supporting the coordination of new application implementations to equip WFP staff with the tools they need for effective performance.
  • Drafting standard materials such as end-user and technical documentation to ensure staff have access to necessary information about IT services and products.
  • Implementing improvements to methods and processes within the IT division to support the continuous enhancement of IT services provided.
  • Coordinating the installation and maintenance of telecommunications systems and equipment to ensure optimal services in compliance with standard operational procedures. 1
  • Leading a team of IT staff to ensure that individual and team objectives are met in compliance with all relevant regulations and policies. 1
  • Following established emergency response processes and procedures to provide support in meeting emergency food assistance needs.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the IT Operations Associate position include a completion of secondary school education and a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area. Candidates should have experience analyzing service management results and developing service enhancement recommendations. Participation in business process re-engineering efforts and identifying service management improvements is also desired. Additionally, experience in the country office procurement and budgeting process is beneficial. Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of IT service delivery and possess the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the IT Operations Associate position should have completed secondary school education, along with a post-secondary certificate in a relevant functional area. For field positions, fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the local language, if different, is essential.

The IT Operations Associate position is a one-year renewable contract, classified at the GS 6 post grade. The duty station for this role is Accra, Ghana.
