The driver is responsible for the cleanliness and mechanical upkeep of the assigned vehicle, reporting any issues to the supervisor. In addition to driving duties, the driver may perform basic office tasks such as filing, photocopying, and delivering items, thereby supporting administrative functions within the organization. This position is crucial for ensuring that WFP personnel can travel safely and efficiently, facilitating the organization's humanitarian missions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties and responsibilities of the Driver include:
Providing transportation for authorized personnel, ensuring adherence to safety and security protocols.
Meeting officials and visitors at the airport or other entry points, assisting with visa and customs formalities.
Maintaining accurate vehicle log books and reporting mechanical status to the supervisor.
Ensuring the assigned vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with necessary travel authorizations and supplies.
Following established rules for field deliveries and reporting any issues to the supervisor.
Performing basic office-related tasks such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining stores when required.
Delivering and collecting various items, mailing services, and payment of office bills to support administrative functions.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Driver position include:
Completion of secondary school education.
Formal driver’s training with a valid driver’s license/certification to operate the assigned vehicle.
Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol, and local road conditions.
Ability to read and interpret safety rules and operating instructions.
Basic skills in first aid and emergency assistance.
Client-oriented approach with a high sense of responsibility and courtesy.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed secondary school education. Additionally, formal driver’s training and possession of a valid driver’s license are essential for operating the assigned vehicle in accordance with local regulations.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of work experience as a Driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. A demonstrated safe driving record is essential, along with experience in driving various types of vehicles, including vans and trucks. Experience in defensive driving is considered desirable.
Languages: Fluency (level C) in the UN language used at the duty station is mandatory, as well as proficiency in the local language if it differs from the UN language.
Additional Notes: The position is a Fixed Term (FT) contract with a duration of 12 months. It is classified at Grade G
