Job Overview:
The Industrial Drafter position is situated within the Design Office (DO) section of the EN-CV group, specifically dedicated to the Future Circular Collider (FCC) project. This role presents a unique opportunity for the selected candidate to engage in the early design phases of CERN's next flagship accelerator. The Industrial Drafter will collaborate closely with EN-CV engineers and be part of a dedicated team, receiving mentorship from experienced FCC team members to enhance their skills. The position involves detailed technical design studies focusing on cooling, ventilation, and industrial piping installations for the FCC, which is a critical component of CERN's future research endeavors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Industrial Drafter include producing Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), creating 3D models and drawings, and generating bills of materials (BoMs) for budget estimates. The drafter will also contribute to the preparation of technical specifications and review third-party drawings and 3D models, providing technical guidance as necessary. Engaging in design reviews with other CERN Design Offices is essential to ensure the proper integration of 3D models from various stakeholders. Additionally, the Industrial Drafter will be responsible for developing and maintaining Revit libraries using Dynamo, VBA, or Python, which are crucial for the design process.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State. By the application deadline, applicants should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, or a related field. The highest educational qualification required is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree. It is important to note that applicants who have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract are not eligible. Furthermore, candidates without a university degree or those holding a PhD are also not eligible for this position.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, or a related field. This educational background is essential for understanding the technical aspects of the role and for contributing effectively to the design and analysis of HVAC processes and systems.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation. This experience should be relevant to the fields of Mechanical Engineering or HVAC, ensuring that the candidate is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform the duties of the Industrial Drafter effectively.

Languages:
Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the other language. This bilingual requirement is crucial for effective communication within the diverse environment at CERN, where collaboration with international teams is common.

The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the target start date for the position is January 1, 202
  • The job reference for this position is EN-CV-DO-2025-193-GRAE. The compensation includes a monthly stipend ranging from 5196 to 5716 Swiss Francs (net of tax), along with coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme for the employee, spouse, and children. Additional benefits may include an installation grant, family allowances, and travel expense payments at the beginning and end of the contract. Employees are entitled to 30 days of paid leave per year, and there are opportunities for on-the-job training, formal training at CERN, and in-house language courses for English and/or French.
