Job Overview: The National ProjectCoordinator will be responsible for leading the overall coordination, implementation, and monitoring of a GEF-funded project aimed at addressing nutrient pollution in Thailand's coastal waters. This position requires a full-time commitment and involves ensuring that all project activities are executed efficiently and effectively, adhering to timelines and quality standards. The Coordinator will develop work plans, manage resources, oversee staff and consultants, and ensure compliance with GEF and UNEP reporting requirements. The project focuses on reducing nutrient pollution from various sectors, including agriculture, tourism, and fishing, which are significant contributors to environmental degradation in Thailand. The Coordinator will work closely with stakeholders to implement strategies that promote sustainable practices and enhance environmental management.
Duties and Responsibilities: The National Project Coordinator will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Leading the coordination and implementation of the GEF-funded project, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.
Developing detailed work plans and timelines for project activities, ensuring that all tasks are completed on schedule.
Managing project resources effectively, including overseeing budgets and financial reporting.
Coordinating with staff, consultants, and stakeholders to mobilize inputs and ensure effective collaboration.
Overseeing the delivery of subcontracts and ensuring that all deliverables meet quality standards.
Monitoring project progress and performance, making adjustments as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
Ensuring compliance with GEF and UNEP reporting requirements, including preparing and submitting reports on project activities and outcomes.
Engaging with government agencies, NGOs, and community stakeholders to promote awareness and support for the project.
Participating in interministerial meetings and contributing to the development of nutrient pollution reduction strategies and action plans.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in environmental science, natural resource management, public administration, business administration, or a related field. A master's degree is highly desirable. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in project management, particularly in environmental and sustainable development projects, is required. Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and coordination, including working with government agencies, development partners, and civil society organizations (CSOs), is essential. Proven experience in managing GEF, UNEP, or other donor-funded projects, along with a strong understanding of their procedures and compliance requirements, is an asset. Familiarity with Thailand's environmental policies and nutrient management issues is also beneficial.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, natural resource management, public administration, or business administration. A master's degree is considered highly desirable, indicating a higher level of expertise and knowledge in the field.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in project management, specifically in the context of environmental and sustainable development projects. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing complex projects, engaging with multiple stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with donor requirements. Experience in working with international organizations, particularly in the context of GEF or UNEP projects, is highly valued.
Languages: Fluency in both written and spoken English is mandatory for this position, as well as fluency in written and spoken Thai. These language skills are essential for effective communication with stakeholders, reporting, and project implementation.
