Job Overview: The Intensive Case Management (ICM) Caseworker plays a crucial role in addressing barriers to safety and wellness for particularly vulnerable populations, including refugees, asylees, and other ORR-eligible individuals. This position requires the caseworker to provide strengths-based, client-centered case management tailored to the unique needs of single-headed refugee households, survivors of domestic violence and gender-based violence, older refugees, youth and young adults without guardians, and those facing mental health challenges or physical disabilities. The ICM caseworker will collaborate closely with clients, colleagues, and external partners to develop comprehensive service plans that align with individual client needs and preferences, utilizing a wide array of financial, medical, social, vocational, and other resources in accordance with eligibility and program requirements. The role demands a proactive approach to client engagement, ensuring that clients receive the necessary support to navigate complex systems and achieve their self-sufficiency goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The ICM Caseworker's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: determining client eligibility for ICM programming and conducting intake assessments; developing individualized, SMART self-sufficiency plans for enrolled clients; evaluating client progress biannually to assess goal achievement and identify new needs; assisting clients in navigating healthcare and social service systems, including benefits applications and appointment scheduling; conducting community outreach and maintaining a robust network of service providers; providing clients with extended orientation on various topics such as women’s health and transportation systems; responding to client crises with appropriate guidance; assisting clients in requesting financial assistance and tracking it within case files; maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation in client case files and IRC’s database; attending relevant trainings and meetings; potentially training and leading volunteers and interns; and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 1-2 years of case management experience with similar populations and/or client needs is required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong relationship-building, diplomacy, and networking skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and work in a multicultural environment. A self-starter with excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to prioritize and manage time effectively is essential. Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory, while proficiency in languages spoken by the client group, such as Dari or Pashto, is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to utilize digital tools for data entry and research is also required. A valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle are necessary for this role.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or a related field of study. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of case management and the specific needs of the populations served by the IRC.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant case management experience, particularly with vulnerable populations such as refugees and asylees. This experience is crucial for effectively addressing the unique challenges faced by these individuals and providing the necessary support and resources to help them achieve self-sufficiency.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, both in spoken and written forms. Additionally, proficiency in languages commonly spoken by the client group, such as Dari and Pashto, is considered a valuable asset and is preferred to enhance communication and service delivery.
Additional Notes: The working environment for this role includes a combination of standard office settings, remote work, and fieldwork within the service delivery area. The position may require occasional weekend and/or evening work. Compensation for this role ranges from $29.10 to $30.00 per hour, with pay rates based on various factors such as labor market conditions, job type, internal equity, and budget considerations.
