Job Overview:
The position of Graphic Designer for Advocacy Campaign at UN Women Uganda is crucial for enhancing visibility and advocacy efforts related to gender equality and the empowerment of women. The role involves creating visually appealing and informative materials that will be utilized during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. The designer will be responsible for collecting design requirements, developing layouts for fact sheets and advocacy visuals, and ensuring that all products align with UN Women’s branding and campaign identity. This position requires a creative individual who can produce engaging infographics and visual assets that effectively communicate campaign achievements and calls to action, thereby contributing to the overall mission of UN Women in promoting gender equality.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Graphic Designer will have a range of duties and responsibilities, including:
  • Collecting design requirements, which encompass branding guidelines, key campaign messages, and target audiences.
  • Developing draft layouts for fact sheets and advocacy visuals, and collaborating with the communications team for feedback and revisions.
  • Finalizing design templates and ensuring that all products adhere to UN Women branding and campaign identity standards.
  • Creating engaging and reader-friendly infographics and visual assets that highlight campaign achievements and calls to action.
  • Following corporate design guidelines that will be provided to the Online Volunteers in advance.
  • Delivering five designed fact sheets in both PDF and editable formats that effectively communicate campaign messages.
  • Producing a consolidated style guide that includes colors, fonts, layouts, and infographics for consistent campaign branding.
  • Creating editable design templates using software such as InDesign, Canva, or Illustrator for future use by the communications team.
  • Designing at least three advocacy infographics or visuals optimized for social media platforms to enhance outreach and engagement.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Graphic Designer position should possess a strong background in graphic design, with proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Canva. A solid understanding of branding principles and experience in creating visually compelling materials for advocacy campaigns are essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with a team. Strong communication skills are also necessary to effectively gather design requirements and incorporate feedback from the communications team.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual arts, communications, or a related field is required for this position. Additional certifications or training in graphic design software and techniques will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a portfolio that showcases their design skills and previous work related to advocacy or campaign materials.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 2-3 years of professional experience in graphic design, particularly in creating materials for advocacy campaigns or similar projects. Experience working with non-profit organizations or in the field of gender equality and women's empowerment will be highly regarded. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of producing high-quality design work that meets organizational branding standards and effectively communicates key messages.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communications and materials will be developed in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly local languages spoken in Uganda, would be considered a valuable asset, enhancing the ability to connect with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
