Job Overview: The Educational Program Coordinator will play a crucial role in the implementation of educational programs for unaccompanied migrant children (UMC) residing in IOM's accommodation centers. This position involves assessing the educational needs of each child, developing individualized educational plans, and ensuring that minors are enrolled in formal education. The coordinator will also be responsible for planning and executing educational programs that prioritize the teaching of the Greek language, as well as organizing vocational training and recreational activities. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including legal guardians and community organizations, to enhance the educational experience of the children and ensure their overall well-being.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Identify the educational level of each accommodated minor and prepare relevant individual educational plans as part of the Individual Action Plan.
Register children in schools and monitor their attendance in formal education in cooperation with the Legal Guardian.
Plan and implement educational programs and remedial teaching, prioritizing the teaching of the Greek language with a minimum of 6 hours per week.
Develop activities for the creative use of minors' free time.
Plan and implement educational excursions and recreational programs.
Maintain individual records, including daily observations and information about activities.
Map existing activities organized at the local level and establish synergies with private or local actors to enroll children.
Collaborate with other community actors for daily activities that could be offered to the children. 1
Assist and instruct children in health, hygiene, and personal habits. 1
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess excellent communication and negotiation skills, personal commitment, efficiency, and flexibility. They should be able to work with minimal supervision and have experience in developing and delivering life skills and educational training programs for children. Proficiency in standard software applications, such as MS Office, is required. Experience in a multicultural environment is preferred, along with a strong work ethic and commitment to humanitarian principles. A valid driver’s license with at least five years of driving experience is an advantage.
Educational Background: A university degree in Education, Pedagogy, or a related field from an accredited academic institution is required. The degree must correspond to the qualifications needed for teachers of all specialties, addressing the age and needs of minors. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: A minimum of one year of relevant professional experience is desirable. Previous experience working with children is considered an asset, as it enhances the candidate's ability to relate to and support the minors effectively.
Languages: Fluency in Greek is required, both oral and written. A working knowledge of English or French is also required, with proficiency in these languages being evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Greece will be eligible for consideration. The appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and necessary authorizations by the concerned government.
