IOM is committed to ensuring that migration is safe, orderly, and dignified, and works closely with governments and other stakeholders to achieve this mission.

Job Overview:
The consultant will play a crucial role in a 24-month project aimed at integrating human mobility considerations into Botswana's disaster risk reduction and climate change policies. The project seeks to analyze the impact of environmental changes on migration patterns, particularly focusing on gender dimensions and the unique challenges faced by different demographic groups. The consultant will lead the development of a comprehensive profile on the migration, environment, and climate change nexus in Botswana, which will include a case study on drought-related mobility. This profile will serve as a vital resource for stakeholders to understand population movements and identify vulnerable populations, thereby guiding effective resource allocation and policy formulation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's responsibilities will include developing a detailed workplan upon contract commencement, conducting a literature review and stakeholder engagement strategy, overseeing primary data collection activities, and preparing various reports including an inception report, field data summary, and a comprehensive MECC profile. The consultant will also organize stakeholder consultation meetings to present findings and gather feedback, ensuring that the final profile incorporates insights from diverse stakeholders. The consultant must adhere to IOM's data protection principles and maintain confidentiality throughout the project.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in Social Sciences, Environmental Studies, Migration Studies, or related fields. They should have at least 5 years of experience in research related to climate change, disaster risk reduction, and human mobility, with proven expertise in gender-sensitive research and analysis. Familiarity with Botswana's socio-political and environmental context is considered an advantage. Strong analytical, communication, and report-writing skills are essential for this role.

Educational Background:
An advanced degree in relevant fields such as Social Sciences, Environmental Studies, or Migration Studies is required. This educational background should provide the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to conduct research and analysis on the complex interactions between migration, environment, and climate change.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in research focusing on climate change, disaster risk reduction, and human mobility. Candidates should demonstrate proven expertise in conducting gender-sensitive research and analysis, as well as familiarity with the socio-political and environmental context of Botswana, which will enhance the quality and relevance of the consultancy work.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Setswana is mandatory, while knowledge of other local languages is considered a plus. Proficiency in IOM's official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish, will be evaluated during the selection process, potentially through written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy will involve field visits to regions affected by climate change and disasters in Botswana, as well as travel for stakeholder consultations and final presentations. The consultant will be expected to adhere to IOM's competency framework and values, which emphasize inclusion, integrity, professionalism, and empathy. The appointment is subject to funding confirmation and medical fitness certification. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses but does not offer evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational incidents.
