Job Overview:
The Senior Associate engineer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Civil Engineer will perform infrastructure support services in civil engineering, providing essential civil engineering services to ISSC work streams, HQ, country offices, and project teams. The role involves technical support, design-development" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">design development, and design review, with responsibilities defined by each service request. The engineer will also be required to travel for global support missions as directed by the Head of the ISSC. The position emphasizes the importance of safety and functionality in design solutions, adhering to UNOPS design planning manuals and ensuring compliance with national and international standards. The engineer will contribute to knowledge sharing and operational advice, fostering collaboration within the organization and supporting the development of infrastructure projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Associate Civil Engineer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: providing procedural support to ensure safety and quality in structural designs; evaluating proposed design solutions against specified requirements; preparing comprehensive design documentation, including drawings and specifications; contributing to technical feedback for process improvement; assisting in design review checklists and reports; ensuring compliance with UNOPS policies and standards; performing quality control and design reviews for various infrastructure projects; utilizing computer-assisted engineering and design software; and maintaining effective communication with team members and project teams. The engineer will also be expected to apply technical expertise in support of design development and infrastructure assessments, ensuring that all designs meet or exceed safety standards and functional requirements.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma, with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited university being preferred. A Master's degree in a relevant field may substitute for some years of experience. The position requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant design or design review experience, with a strong preference for candidates with experience in the infrastructure sector. Knowledge of sustainable and resilient approaches in civil engineering, as well as familiarity with local and international regulations, is highly desired. Proficiency in report writing and oral presentation skills is also essential, along with high computer literacy, particularly in software relevant to civil engineering and project management.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma is required, with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited university being preferred. A Master's degree in a relevant field may be accepted in lieu of a Bachelor's degree and may reduce the required years of experience. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in civil engineering principles and practices, as well as an understanding of relevant regulations and standards.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 7 years of relevant experience in design or design review, with the exact requirement depending on academic credentials. Experience in the development infrastructure sector is highly desired, along with knowledge of sustainable practices in civil engineering. Familiarity with local and international hydraulics, sanitation, and water engineering rules and regulations is also beneficial. Experience working with international organizations or UN agencies is considered an asset, and a valid driving license is advantageous but not essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position, as effective communication in both languages is essential for collaboration and reporting. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
The contract type for this position is a Retainer - Local Individual Contractor Agreement, with a contract level of ICS 07 and a duration of 12 months, subject to the availability of funds and satisfactory performance. It is important to note that retainer positions are not full-time and may involve ad-hoc requests from UNOPS project teams or country offices. Candidates should be aware that there is no obligation for UNOPS to provide a minimum quantity of services during the retainer contract. Additionally, candidates must complete mandatory courses before providing services to UNOPS, and these courses will not be compensated.
