Job Overview: The Senior Communications Associate (Multimedia) will play a vital role in enhancing the visibility and storytelling efforts of the Migrant Protection, Return and Reintegration Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa (MPRR-SSA). This regional initiative, funded by the European Union, aims to protect vulnerable migrants and facilitate their sustainable reintegration in Sub-Saharan Africa. The incumbent will be responsible for creating and disseminating multimedia content that showcases the program's impact and adheres to IOM's institutional standards and donor visibility requirements. This position requires collaboration with country offices, implementing partners, and regional stakeholders to produce high-quality multimedia outputs that effectively communicate the program's objectives and successes. The role also involves supporting donor engagement and amplifying the voices of migrants and returnees through compelling visual storytelling, thereby contributing to the overall mission of IOM in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop multimedia content, including short videos, photography, and audio, to document MPRR-SSA activities, success stories, and regional events, ensuring alignment with IOM's ethical storytelling standards.
Prepare and layout communication materials such as campaign visuals, social media graphics, banners, factsheets, presentations, and branded templates, maintaining consistency with IOM's visual identity.
Provide technical support during regional events and field missions, including audiovisual documentation, equipment setup, and multimedia logistics.
Ensure ethical collection, consent documentation, and secure archiving of visual materials in accordance with IOM data protection and communications guidelines.
Manage and maintain a structured multimedia asset archive, ensuring proper labeling, metadata input, and efficient file retrieval systems.
Review visual content submitted by country offices and implementing partners to verify compliance with IOM branding and donor visibility guidelines.
Contribute to the development of visibility and donor reporting packages by compiling relevant multimedia materials and performance indicators.
Assist in capacity building for country focal points and implementing partners in visual storytelling, ethical communications, and branding through constructive feedback and guidance.
Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma with six years of relevant professional experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Multimedia Production, Digital Media, Visual Communication, Journalism, Graphic Design, Communication Arts, or a related field from an accredited academic institution, along with four years of relevant professional experience. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Additionally, candidates should have proven experience in multimedia production, including video shooting/editing, photography, graphic design, and proficiency in multimedia software such as Adobe Creative Suite. Familiarity with consent protocols, ethical storytelling, and digital asset management is also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes either a high school diploma with six years of relevant professional experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Multimedia Production, Digital Media, Visual Communication, Journalism, Graphic Design, or Communication Arts. The degree must be from an accredited institution recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that candidates have received a quality education that prepares them for the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in multimedia production, which includes skills in video shooting and editing, photography, graphic design, and the use of multimedia software, particularly Adobe Creative Suite. Experience working in humanitarian or development contexts is highly desirable, as it demonstrates an understanding of the unique challenges and ethical considerations involved in communicating about vulnerable populations. Familiarity with consent protocols and ethical storytelling practices is also essential for this role, as it ensures that the dignity and rights of individuals are respected in all communications.
Languages: The mandatory languages for this position are English and French, as these are two of IOM's official languages. Proficiency in Spanish is also beneficial, as it is the third official language of IOM. Candidates will be evaluated on their language skills during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure that they can effectively communicate in the required languages.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning that only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Senegal will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and any necessary authorizations from the government. The selection process may also be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months.
