Job Overview:
The Focal Point Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the SDG Stories Initiative in Jordan, which aims to engage young individuals aged 7 to 16 with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through storytelling. This position involves identifying and establishing networks with schools, particularly in rural and marginalized areas, to participate in the initiative. The assistant will work closely with the ESCWA team and the Jordanian Ministry of Education to facilitate the implementation of activities related to the SDGs. The role requires strong organizational skills to manage field visits, events, and partnerships with various stakeholders, including civil society and the private sector. The Focal Point Assistant will also contribute to the promotion of good citizenship and global leadership among students and educators involved in the initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Focal Point Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: acting as the main liaison between ESCWA, the Jordanian Ministry of Education, and beneficiary schools; identifying 30 target schools for the SDG Stories Initiative; advising schools and stakeholders on SDG-related activities; facilitating communication between ESCWA and schools; participating in field visits to schools; assisting in the planning and organization of relevant events; exchanging expertise with the SDG Stories Team; and promoting the SDGs and intergenerational dialogue among participants. The assistant will also be involved in capacity-building sessions for teachers and will help foster cooperation and partnerships to support the initiative's goals.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a recognized first-level degree in education, sociology, psychology, social service, international relations, political science, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of proven work experience with schools, NGOs, local governments, and international organizations on projects related to education, science, and culture is required. Experience working with both public and private schools in Jordan is desirable, as is relevant experience within the United Nations system. Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a recognized first-level degree in fields such as education, sociology, psychology, social service, international relations, political science, or a related area. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of the role and effectively engaging with various stakeholders in the education sector.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience. This experience should include working with schools, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), local governments, and international organizations, particularly on projects that focus on education, science, and culture. Experience in the Jordanian context, especially with public and private schools, is highly desirable. Additionally, having relevant experience within the United Nations framework will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic is mandatory for this position, as it is a working language of ESCWA. Candidates must demonstrate fluency in all four areas of language proficiency: speaking, reading, writing, and understanding. Knowledge of English and French is also beneficial, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Candidates who possess strong skills in these languages will have an advantage in this role.
